Uni Stuff > Commerce
Melbourne or Monash for commerce?
MashiMaro780:
Hey guys,
I need help on deciding which uni to put down for my first preference. I missed Monash open day, but went to Melbourne's and I was quite impressed by the study environment/ atmosphere of the university. I haven't been to Monash, though I've been told that it is a bit run-down (I'm talking about Clayton campus here). But then, I really shouldn't be making a decision solely based on how the buildings look....
I can't decide which course to put first: B. Com at Melbourne or the B. Com/B. Arts double degree at Monash. They both sound like good courses, though I've been told than Melbourne is more analytical and Monash is more practical. I really want to do commerce and also study a language, and both unis allow me to do so (Monash through Arts double degree and Melbourne through Breadth tracks)
I know both unis have good reputation, though Melbourne might have slightly more prestige than Monash (and the Melbourne Model doesn't sound so bad, correct me if I'm wrong)
It takes me roughly the same amount of travel time, but Melbourne definitely has a better location.
What I really want to know is: Which uni offers more scholarships/bursaries? And which uni offers more incentives to go on exchange? I come from a financially disadvantaged family but I really want to study abroad. I'm not KLD and is hoping for an ATAR of around 95.
I'd appreciate any comments on which degree to put first, as well as any additional feedback on the two universities and the study experience in general. Thanks a lot!

In reference to your two main questions, i can't say for sure or compare, all i can say is that melboune have a *shite*load of scolarships, e..g the business/economics faculty is planning to raise 5 million dollars in the next 5 years JUST for commerce students, so if you deserve one, you'll get a scolarships, jsut make sure you apply for them all....
As for incentives to go on exchange, most people going on exchange get $2500 from the global mobility unit, granted that that's not going to be enough to get yout there and back, but it defs helps, moreover there are other grants and money you can get, especially if you go to certian unis for exhange.... Again, i can't comment on monash, but i would presume they would get about the same deal

Hmmm okay, that makes sense.
I pretty much had my mind set on Monash before Open day, because so many people gave the Melbourne Model the thumbs down, but after going to Melbourne's Open day I wasn't so sure any more. Doing a double major that complements each other and a language or something for breadth sounds more appealing than a double degree, and doesn't take as long.

u realise you can still do that at monash? it just isnt emphasised like melbourne. so you can do a single degree commerce with a double major and use ur "breadth subjects" or we call it electives for a language
its the exact same thing.

QUESTION: if you went to monash: why did you choose monash over melbourne?
and vice versa for the melbourne peeps.
