Well I blame it on Melbourne and all their advertising ^^"
Now how am I supposed to deciiiide??? I really should've gone to the monash open day  *sob*
QUESTION: if you went to monash: why did you choose monash over melbourne?
and vice versa for the melbourne peeps.

chose melbourne for

1) location, much easier to get to for me and it's just next to the city-just close to everything, it really is convenient, something you don't realise till you're there

2) course, it is significantly better, at least for actuarial studies. In general though, there is not a heap between the two uni in terms of course prestige, i would say melbounre is slightly better, but it depends on your perespective/area of focus, if you get god enouhg marks, melb/monash won't make a difference tbh

3) scholarship, my scholarship has been amazing, i have gotten soooo many contacts because of it, the money has just been a side thing

4) facilities, have you SEEN the spot/law building/new commerce library? now look at monash. i'll let you decide on this one :P

mystikal:
monash

location, scholarship, easier to get into, alot of friends were in the course.

However, to be honest both melbourne and monash are good, i think wateva u choose will be a good decision.

Although this is a bit off-topic, what is actuarial studies at monash like in comparison to melbourne?

I'm not sure how much you know about actuarial studies but basically there are three sets of exams you need to pass to become fully qualified. Melbourne students who do the three year bachelor program get exemption from most of part one and all of aprt one and two if they do the extra honors year. the program has been running for ages, and the centre has loads of experience.

Monash only just got exemption for part one this year, and not sure about two. essentailly melbounre have a much more respected actuarial program due to their experience. Going to melbounre will give you a better course for actuarial studies and it has more prestige in this area and you are much more liekyl to get the better jobs with a melbouren degree comapred to monash

agreed that melbourne has a more established acturial program and should go there if you want to major it. However, monash has a lot more majors on offer in the commerce field than melbourne.

A very good point about melbourne is that they have summer semester for commerce especially so u can fasttrack, or pace out your degree, or catchup from fails or under circumstances during those periods. They offer alot of their commerce units in the summer most of which are relevant like accounting, finance etc....

Monash has that only for like ... random units in commerce like really random ones in the summer that arent worth doing .... or u can go to malaysia monash where they have more... but y go all the way to malaysia...

i know im a monash student but one of the things i cringe about that melbourne has is that summer semester option which has so many uses.
