Year 5-7 = MBBS

:O And do you apply for the double degree through UAC, or do you have to apply after your first year of the PhB?

Been browsing the ANU site for quite a while now except still can't find any info on this. Can you so kindly direct us to info on this with a link please? :)

thushan:
Yup, got an email from the admissions people and all -

First came into my attention when i was applying through UAC (the UAC site mentions it)

Dear Thushan,

My apologies for the delay in responding to your query – life is pretty hectic at the start of semester and I am afraid I missed your email for a little while.

As Hollie has advised you, we do have a pathway available to PhB students which links with the ANU graduate Medicine program. This an exciting opportunity that appeals to a number of our PhB students as it offers the option of the research undergraduate degree plus the graduate medicine program with a saving of one year.

Students interested in this pathway firstly apply for the PhB. If admitted to this four year degree, they can then take one or more of their Advanced Studies Courses (the research projects offered in the degree) in an area (or multiple areas) of medical research. In the 3rd and 4th year of the degree there is some overlap with the first year of the Medical School program leading to a saving of I year over the two degrees undertaken separately. However at any point students can change their mind and complete the PhB program as per normal.

Students accepted into this pathway are exempt from the GAMSAT but still need to sit an interview. Of course, if you decide to apply for admission to a medical program at another university then the requirement to sit the GAMSAT for that other institution would remain.

Please feel free to contact me again if you have any other questions. You might also find it helpful to come along to the ANU Open Day on the 27th August. I shall be attending the Open Day and would be only too pleased to talk with you about the unparalleled opportunities available to students in the PhB, including this pathway to graduate medicine.

In the meantime though, good luck with your studies this year

Kind regards,           Paula Newitt

Hmm... sounds interesting.... is it too late to apply for ANU? I've already got a UAC application submitted....
