When asked to evaluate a matrix in an exam do VCAA expect the student to show full working out (by hand), or is writing down the steps good enough (and then solving the problem on calculator)?

There are never ANY marks for arithmetic, and hence, no vcaa doesn't expect you to write out steps for matrix multiplication. you can just write the answer

Excellent. This will help me to save time in the exam.

Thanks for the reply!

So do we actually need to know how to multiply matrices by hand? Or is it all CAS

in methods you might, cause you might get a transformation matrix question in exam 1 - highly likely (or a steady state matrix question)

but for further, both exams are tech, so no you don't have to know how to multiply matrices by hand, but its not that hard to be able to :)
