Hahah, I love Andrew Bolt's writing, it's amazingly persuasive!

I hope that it's just his writing that you like! His viewpoints - although often persuasive to his misinformed audience - are generally downright illogical, misguided and ultimately disgraceful. It's people like him that are a threat to the wellbeing of Australian society if you ask me!!

Meh. Sorry to derail the thread and all, but though I should probably chip in here. I've actually met Andrew Bolt quite a few times, and I must say, he is HIGHLY intelligent. Like, scary smart. The thing with his writing is he preys on the fears and insecurities of the majority of the general public, which coincides with your comment about his writing lacking logic, as fear is usually grounded in misinformation or misunderstanding. Bolt uses the fears and insecurities held by a large amount of the general public, particularly issues of racism which most people are too politically concerned to admit feel, and turns them into his own beliefs, thus appealing to many many people, without them realising what he's done, or how he feels about something. The majority of the shit he writes he does not believe in, and only writes it to raise his reputation and reception amongst society, which, given how popular a topic he is these days, has been extremely successful.

I have no doubt that he is highly intelligent; one couldn't effectively manipulate millions of Australians on a daily basis without being so! I also completely agree that fear is "usually grounded in misinformation or misunderstanding" - this is what allows Bolt, through his meticulous playing to individuals' fears,  to have so much influence.

However, if he "does not believe in [what he writes]" how can you imply that he is an individual worthy of any respect whatsoever? Let alone "extremely successful"?
