“When we cannot face reality we create our own “

According to T.S Eliot “human kind cannot bear much reality “. Often than not the real world that surrounds us, is a world filled with disappointment and brutality which for many is difficult to face. It is much easier and perhaps more comforting , to just enter a world in side our mind or create an alternative reality be it for a few hours, or a few minutes. Especially, when our surroundings have let us down or it is too much for as to bear and the pain goes beyond our tolerance range. As well as this, the ways in which a person constructs or escapes their reality and the amount of time they spend in it varies broadly from person to person. Essentially, individuals may chose to use this defence mechanism instead of confronting the truth. An example of this is prominent in Tennessee Williams “A street car named Desire “ ,where Blanche Dubois can no longer bare both her past and present circumstances, so she escapes into her own fantastical world in order to break away from her past and her harsh reality.  Similarly, in Spies both Keith and Stephen enter a fabricated a world of their own to escape the horrors of war and even their “unsatisfactory families”. However, there may be times where we can face reality to a certain point, but then must quickly escape in order to keep ourselves sane or too prevent us from becoming too over overwhelmed. For instance many individuals around the world immerse themselves into the world of gaming, as it offers a place of retreat from the fast paced and demanding society we live in today. By this it can be seen that individuals will escape construct an alternative reality if they cannot keep up with their present one, but the time spent in it varies among individuals.
