Camo's Maths Methods Cheat Book Thread.

So I just want to make sure that I have everything necessary for my methods cheat book so I have gone over the following chapters (as with the essential methods chapters are below).

1. Functions and Relations.
2. Revising Linear Functions and Matrices.
3. Families of Functions.
4. Polynomial Functions.
5. Exponential and Logarithmic Functions.
6. Circular Functions.
7. Functions Revisited.
8. Revision chapters. (Not included).
9. Differentiation of Polynomials, Power Functions & Rational Functions.
10. Applications of Differentiation.
11. Differentiation of Transcendental Functions.
12. Integration.
13. Revision chapters. (Not included).
14. Discrete Random Variables and Their Probability Distributions.
15. The Binomial Distribution.
16. Markov Chains.
17. Continuous Random Variables and Their Probability Distributions.
18. The Normal Distribution.
19. Revision Chapters. (Not included.)

I am wondering to what extent I should include stuff into my cheat book. I have a cheat book that I got from someone else but I don't feel as if it covers enough. I will attach and add to the chapters I have done and feedback is appreciated.

I will incorporate all chapters together once completed.

Have you used a cheat book in previous SACs and stuff? Notice how you barely used it, and how it may only have helped with 1-2 questions?

The exam is likely to be similar in this aspect, covering every single thing in immense detail is not what you want in your cheat book, but simple, CONCISE, straight to the point information.

I wouldn't recommend putting absolutely everything there either, have a section of stuff you know that you are weak with, and then a section of questions you found difficult. AND THEN go through the basics and the common types of exam standard questions, using past exam examples to demonstrate some of these would be good too.

now to start mine, lol..

My course summary is about 4 pages atm, not planning to extend it by much.

One of the teachers at my school actually recommended bringing no more than 10 pages into the exam for bound notes. So, as Anon123 mentioned - simple, concise, and straight-to-the-point information. I'm planning on bringing in detailed (but not convoluted) notes for the topics in which I struggle most, and very brief dot-points for the stuff that I'm already familiar with. You don't want to waste any time in the exam flipping through several pages just to find a particular topic.

It depends on the person really. There is no point in overdoing it, but if you know where everything is (off by heart) in your cheat book, then you should be fine as you can locate it quickly. This is my situation but the reason I can do this is because I made my summary book throughout the year and have had it for every sac and every exam 2. Really you don't want to be using your summary book as it means you either don't know something (the bad case) or you just forgot a point/formula (the needs working on case) -i.e. I awlays forget the independent probability formula. Although it is there to come to your rescue in exam 2. I don't really use my reference anymore, except for that one stupid formula!

Thats the thing, I have always felt as if I did further it would be too easy, (and it is if I just look at the work of others), when methods I find difficult still and am revising still to be able to understand. I did methods in year 11 but still didn't get much out of it as the teacher would never really be there to help us. I know I should have worked more throughout the year but I took it slowly and started to get some things, but are still struggling with others. I'm surprised I find so much of probability so straight forward actually. I find my sort of study suitable for me, as I am starting to understand some stuff now, but I definitely get where you guys are coming from.

Write that formula on the cover of your reference :P LOL!
Btw, what independent probability formula are you talking about?

Pr(A intersection B)=Pr(A)Pr(B) EDIT: It always seems to come up on exam 1, I've lost 3 marks on 4 different occasions because of it! And for some reason it still doesn't stick!

And I have all the stupid thing I do on the inside of the cover of my bound reference. The biggest one is "2+2=4 NOT 6!" Once I finish exam 2 I'm going to read that page and when I look over the exam, look out for those exact things while checking everything.

I'm going to love it in the exam, if you read back over and notice a 2+2=6 anywhere.
