After looking at the 2010 further exam the matrices section looks more difficult then previous years?

Is it actually much harder? Do you guys recommend me to still do matrices for the exam next year( in year 11)????

In my opinion, matrices is one of the easiest modules. Its up to you, but I would definitely recommend you do it on the exam next year, it's actually pretty straight-forward.

No modules are "easier" than another, some of my friends say Matrices is easy, some say Business Maths is easy, some say Networks are easy

The only advice I would give is that if you're also doing methods, you HAVE TO do Graphs and Relations, it's because it's basic linear algebra that's literally a walk in the park for someone who does methods :)

Actually with the modules, some are actually easier or may appear 'easier' in the textbook, but once it gets to the vcaa exam the modules are pretty even. They just make the 'easier' modules with harder questions, etc. Matrices is pretty easy to study for though and simple, being it only having one chapter.

I would recommend you study for 4 modules(which isn't hard at all). In the exam if you feel that one module is relatively difficult then you have the other 3 modules to choose from. If you aren't aware, the modules you choose for each exam can be different to each other.

as a methods student their was only one thing new in the matrices chapter which was transition matrices application. so yeah definetely do matrices if u plan on doing methods 1/2 next year. saves time on learning the whole module so u have more time studying the tricky exam questions

I reckon matrices is probably one of the most easiest.
Look at the assessment reports, people do pretty well in it compared to other modules.

I heard from lectures that VCAA's gonna make it more "wordy" (as in put in more words, as you can see from VCAA 2010)  in matrices questions

Whoever said you should study for four modules is just wrong I think. Studying for four units means you either have to invest way more time, or you just won't be as good at all four as you would be at three.

I am doing, Linear, Matrices and Business and I find none of them challenging, linear is good because it has some similarities with core and is also pretty easy (apart from Linear Programming). Matrices and business are both very straightforward and just come down to making sure you pick up on the tricks.

I would suggest just doing whatever three modules your school does, your SACs are great practice and don't underestimate the teacher's ability. They will help you more than anyone in understanding every nook and cranny of your module and one you learn yourself won't come close to one taught.

i agree, only stick to three modules because that's all you really need anyway.
as long as you know you understand the concepts you're doing and are able to apply it to vcaa questions then all three should be 'easy' for you.

I actually disagree, sometimes the module taught by your school is just crap and you don't understand. If you have Business Maths and prefer Geometry, do Geometry!

I think it's stupid how they have modules in the first place, it's never fair, because as all of you know, the scores of the modules aren't standardised

if you think about it, you have a whole year to learn the core and three modules (they don't even cover that many chapters) and refine the skills and everything, so it's pretty simple to fully understand all modules.

EDIT - i don't have a problem with my school modules so that's why i'm saying this. i feel competent doing module 2, 3 and 6. i don't see them as bullshit at all.

After looking at the 2010 further exam the matrices section looks more difficult then previous years?

Is it actually much harder? Do you guys recommend me to still do matrices for the exam next year( in year 11)????

Off topic but look at the time of the original post - 11:11:11pm

EDIT: Yeh go with the modules you understand throughly, rather than the rubbish that the school sometimes set.

To be honest anyone thats done/doing methods or spesh will automatically understand the linear relations and geometry entirely without trying, and will get about half of the rest of them from common sense
