Three Median smooting

When we apply a 'three median smoothing' on a graph (eg 2009 vcaa exam 2 Q2) , do we have to join the dots or does it not matter whether we join the dots or not?

Pretty sure you have to join the dots.
Every exam ill seen has the dots joined.

im pretty sure you have to join the dots. whats certain though is you definitely wont lose marks for joining them so you might as well do it.
