Advanced standing question

I've been putting off my re-enrollment because I'm not sure what units I still need to take as I haven't had my Monash credits transferred over yet ($40 for a transcript... I'm poor).

I'm wondering.... Am I able to get credit for level 1 history at Melbourne if I've done two first year units of history at Monash?  The first year units I've done are not similar AT ALL to the first year Melbourne units. I know that because they are both G8 universities Melbourne doesn't require subject outlines when granting credit. Would this mean that a first year sequence of history at Monash could be counted for credit at Melbourne regardless of differing content?

Argh confusing.

Don't know how many of you have had to deal with advanced standing yet so not sure if if anyone can help me. :)

I think it should count, my advanced standing was within the Uni itself but if you think about it, when I go on exchange I am (potentially) permitted to do subjects on crazy things we don't teach and that is approved.  I don't see why your credit should be invalid just because the School of History doesn't offer that particular subject.  It's different for things like Maths and Chemistry because what you need to have learned is more general and basic but in this case it should be fine.  I would just pay for the transcript and try it out...40 dollars is harsh though, mine was only 15.  Use your ten dollar tip!

It depends if those subjects have similar content to the ones offered at Melbourne. Basically you submit your application and the student centre will determine how much you can credit, so it's hard to estimate here. It also depends on your course. For example, are you trying to get credit for breadth or non-breadth? Because there are limits to the number of credits you can have for certain areas of your course.

Oh wait I have a really good way to assess whether it would be approved, let me text my friend.

Haha, my tip will have to go on groceries -___-

My whole transcript is so confusing.
it looks like this:

Journalism 1 - won't get credit
Linguistics 1 - won't get credit
International studies 1 - at Monash this unit can be counted as a history unit. Thus I'm hoping I can use it for my UoM history level 1 sequence???? * confusing bit
Politics 1 - will get credit for pol/international level 1 sequence
International Studies 2 - will count as an UoM IDF/second unit for level 1 politics/international sequence
German 1 - will get credit for UoM dip of lang
German 2 - will get credit for UoM dip of lang
History 2 - credit for UoM History

So if it goes to plan I'll have 3 first year sequences (1 major, 1 minor and 1 major as part of dip of lang)

there are limits to the number of credits you can have for certain areas of your course.

Maybe that's what the course advisor dude at UoM was trying to say. He told me that the maximum units I could have credited was 4, unless I used my german units as part of the dip of lang. So confusing. I also don't know how my GPA will work with the credited units, I thought I woukd have just the same GPA as I did at Monash but apparently not. Which sucks because I could have used my high average to compensate for failing this semester.

Nah it counts as EXEMPT so your average is just based on what you take here.
And it depends...you can do 125 points of level 1 but you need two IDFs right?  So that's 100 points of level 1 and then if you have your German credits of which I assume there are two then that would reduce it to 75, and then you need two breadths, which equates to four.
So yeah, four.

But in terms of history, you could totally get it approved.  Friend says Melbourne were very willing to approve archaeology for her but she removed the credits because she wanted to take Chinese and needed more points.

PS. they just approve stuff like 'International Studies' as MISC apparently, so you could use your History unit as your major/minor thing, then your Politics one as your other one and then just use international studies as what comes up as MISC on your plan, so miscellaneous.  In case that wasn't clear.  Because, ashamedly, I had to ask.

Well is it possible to get five credits approved for first year if I'm NOT doing the diploma of languages (in attempt to fast track my degree)

Already done at Monash:
- 2 German (major) 25
- 1 History (elective/first year sequence? - i worked out I have 37.5 points left after IDF/Majors/breadth) 12.5
- 2 International studies (major) 25

Then I still have to do:
- 2 breadth 25
- 1 more IDF (second IDF is one of my international studies credits) 12.5

= 100

I'm really hoping they can approve 5 units!
