Question:
What are the 2 methods WHO uses to classifies countries as either developed or developing?
* Broad categories
- geography
- state of economic and demographic development
- mortality patterns

* Mortality Strata
- A-E

what i don't understand is how 'geography' is considered an indicator of whether a country is developed or not... ploise explain.

i researched it on the WHO website but found nothing.

cheers

Shiverz360noscopez:
This is a stupid question and I don't think it's relevant to the study design? However, all the countries in Strata E are in Africa and African countries are mostly Strata D/E so that is the only way you could say so I presume.. Also 'Europe' for example is developed whilst 'Asia/middle east' might not be?

observer7:
i think if they were to ask a question like this it would be 'how does WHO define a country as developed'. And Shiverz would respond with...

Pe_me:
You need to know characteristics that WHO uses to define a developing country such as low life expectancy, high U5 mortality rate, high adult mortality rate.
