Preparing for year 12 chemistry.

I'm trying to prepare for year 12 chemistry next year and aiming for a 45+ study score but I don't have a textbook. I'd just like to know the topics and any useful links/sites that could help me get ahead in the meantime. Thanks :)

Not really a good idea to get too far ahead man, since a few of my friends have done that and didn't do so well (like low 40s) compared to other friends who just did the work with the class and never got behind and did much better (most of them got 50s) in regards to chemistry of course.

It doesn't hurt to go ahead. The risk is getting bored of the subj.

Chemistry is my hobby so I've had a rough idea of the course for a long time. There's no harm with getting ahead in the subject, and as to results, I cleared out the school prize for it this year with minimal study so don't think it'll be detrimental! Just make sure you're not getting yourself confused, and make sure you don't get over confident for a topic just because you did it by yourself.

My best advice is really just to buy the textbook now. However, your 1/2 book has a decent amount of content in that alone, and just having that as a STRONG foundation leading up to next year will be very beneficial. Being able to do problems fast and accurate is never a bad thing. Redox (including galvanic cells), acids/bases, stoichiometry, gas laws and organic chemistry are some chapters from the 1/2 book off the top of my head that would be good to re-visit and strengthen.

All the best!

Hold on, hold on! Don't just burn out within two weeks!

Honestly, this is my personal recommendation.

1. Revise your year 11 stuff. Make sure you know it all (except environmental chemistry). If you don't know your year 11 stuff, you're gonna fail.
2. Get a copy of a textbook. My personal recommendation would be Heinemann, and it doesn't matter where you get it from. You could beg, borrow, or steal the pdf for all I care. It's not that hard to find a copy of it, and if you have a laptop with a cd-rom drive, you can go to a university library. Or actually buy it.
3. Start with the basic analysis procedures, such as gravimetric, titration, volumetric, etc.
4. Then once you're ready, start on chromatography and spectroscopy.

Am I missing something here? All I see helpful from y11 is stoich, acids/bases and gases? That will take max 1week to revise.

And organic chem ...... but that is covered in a fair amount of detail in most yr 12 textbooks again though.

Stoich is actually a lot! Do as many different situations as possible, give back titrations a go too.

Types of bonding... don't forget redox is in year 11 too, and is omnipresent in year 12 as are acids and bases.
