Did somebody say one bloody long exam was in the works?

My teacher was hinting at the fact that this year's exam would be longer than last year's (since it was the first year of the new study design). But holy crap, did not see 3/8 questions that were essentially mini to moderate essay length questions coming!!! :S
Quality definitely deteriorated (both handwriting and vocab) during the last 15 minutes, and my hand cramped up big time, which wasn't cool. But the questions were alright though, nothing too hard (although the considerations of the artist/public in conservation did have me stumped for a couple of minutes). How'd you all go? Hopefully we're all gonna be rocking 40+'s on the 16th Dec!!! :)

Oh and by the way, definitely know that we wouldn't have been tripped up by the fact that we needed to know works from 2 artists thanks to this, +1 for ATARnotes ;)

i really liked this year's exam. it was much more clear as to what answers they were looking for, although i must admit, the three essay-type questions near the end is a bit much for 90 minutes.

didn't really like the variety of unseen artworks though.

Oh my gosh yes!!! I thought it was terribly long and even though I wrote with tiny writing (which is extremely difficult for me) I had to use a script book!! it was a real rush at the end but yes let's hope for 40+!!!

This was great!!!!!
The last question took me at least 20 minutes though haha, good I did it first.
Only thing was, what did anyone say for what the artist would do to preserve/conserve the work? The main thing I said was that the artist of the little car thing would communicate with the curator of the public gallery to make sure her terms and opinions on the handling/preservation/conservation of her works were respected etc.

One girl arrived at ours 15 minutes before the end, and all these people from the TAFE (I presume) down the road came and waited for the first 30 minutes to be over, then just left

That question was kinda weird tbh. Although I reckon what you said would be right, no dialogue between curator and artist = miscommunication, preservation and conservation could suffer as a result.
I chose the Picasso for that one actually; said something like "he needed to ensure that he primed the canvas he used correctly, to ensure that the structural integrity of the canvas and medium he used would be preserved for as extensive a period of time as possible."
But yes, agreeing with you two, where is she?! :o

i think you'd be right actually. dammit, why didn't i say anything about liaising between curator and artist! haha.

did anyone comment on the 'mac attack' image of the maccas franchise store?

i wrote about how the sky is cloudless and there is no sign of life in the store, so although the artist used bright colours to portray such a convivial imagery he is actually subtly denigrating the corporate greed of mcdonald's through the bombardment of company logo which is suggests the importance of brand image to them blah blah blah.

it sounds quite a lot like bullshit to me to be honest, but do you think i've sort of justified it?

I did, but with the very first question, I always do the digital ones for materials / methods questions ... the photograph was beautiful, I chose that for the meaning one

yeah no I'd say that's a great answer, the colours were very bleak and almost looked like they were made to be fun and happy but a lot of the grimness showed through. it was a suitably artificial and desolate scene ...
