functional - advantage: employees are highly specialized in the task they perform therefore allowing for effiency and low levels of wastage. disadvantage: the functional area may be to focused on  departmental/functional objective rather then the strategic objective for the organisation. another disadvantage is that it may create rivalry between functional areas and the potenital for negative corporate culture to be established

matrix: disadvantage: as specialized groups are formed there may be a conflict on the where the chain of command may lie, as there are often two managers who overlook the project employees their may be a conflict of interest between the managers, thus employees may not be to sure who to report too and what orders should be followed.

bureaucratic structure: clearly outlines chain of command and authority, as there are also many levels within the hierarchy employees are exposed to many career pathways and chances for promotion.
