that's one bitch of a question
Lol i know right?
You reckon they might do something like that on the exam? So they still involve Kotters but only for about half the marks.

Hey everyone,
Just wondering if Kotter's isn't the 10 mark question, what other possibilities are there?
I know it has to be from Unit 4 AOS2, but how on earth can one produce an answer worth 10 marks on something like high-risk and low-risk strategies for managing change effectively. Also in regards to the last area of the course, can we just choose one area such as corporate social responsibility and/or business ethics and apply our real-life scenario to it, or do we have to cover all bases, i.e globalistation, technology, etc.

Kotter's would be a great 10 mark question, especially since it's already structured for us, provided we can remember the 8 steps!

Thanks.

Hello there sir
Other possibilities::
- Leadership during change
- Changes effect on the internal environment
- Low/High risk practices
- Driving and Restraining forces (very unlikely to appear again)

the bird with the worm says Kotters is the go, so to be honest I reckon there is a 93.9% chance the bird is right

In regards to Kotters, it will probably ask it to relate it to an issue you have studied this year whether it be globalisation, technology or ethics
and therefore, you would identify and explain each step, and then link it to the organisation you have studied and that particular reason behind the change (i.e. for me I'm doing Qantas and I'm looking at a mix between all 3)

unless it asks for either globalisation, technology, or ethics (which it won't), then you only have to cover the bases of 1 of them depending on the situation you are studying

Great reply, definitely clears things up.
I hope the bird is right, because I don't think I could write 10 marks on leadership only or changes, let alone linking them to a real-life issue. Have mercy VCAA and give us the 10 mark question we want!

I hope I'm alright for tomorrow, so tired from my other exams that haven't worked as productively as I would have liked. Provided there are no surprises though, Business is one of them subjects you can sorta crap on and pick up a few marks I guess. At least it's not 70 marks like the legal exam.  :)

Yeah in my practice exam we did during the last week of school, the last question was this:

Evaluate the management of change in a large-scale organization you have studied this year. In your answer refer to the following:
  • The driving and restraining forces involved;
  • The role of leadership in the change management process by explaining how leadership was connected to any four steps of Kotter's theory of change management; and
  • The impact of change on either the operations or human resources functional areas.

Was kinda a combination of everything that could be possibly asked. I managed to get 8/10, but apparently i 'just needed to refer to leading a bit when discussing the 4 steps'.

that's one bitch of a question

Screwed. There is no way they would ask something like that is there? For 10 marks? That's ridiculous!

I'm sure it would? in any little form or way, and the most likely chance is it won't ask you to relate it to anything specifically
so you'll be fine with whatever you have down pat right now
Hah, i did some research and i found out that due to SPC merger with Ardmona they now export to over 40 countries, so that would be globalisation yes?

yeah :)

could be first 4 or last 4 steps of Kotters and then leadership/low risk, high risk practices/internal factors ect ect

but still 93.9% chance Kotters haha

True, i did legal as well, and no joke, i haven't hand written anything since to try and recover from it. My dam grip on the pen kills me after about 30minutes of writing. :'(

Yeh, I was really worried about the time, but I paced myself quite well. Luckily for the lines cutting me short on some questions, otherwise I'd go on and on and on, just like I did on the SACs. Lol, I'm used to writing like a psycho, so my grip lasted me most of the time, with half my hand painted in blue after the exam.  ;D

The question kinda suited perfectly to my case study to be honest.
Driving = increase market share as 2 competitors merge
Restraining = employees who were competitors for years competing against the other were now to become teammates, resulting in resistance from them.
Then first 4 steps of kotters and random bullocks about leadership
Then for impact on human resource function i said that they would have to come up with a way to resolve a likely clash of conflicts, culture and behaviour, and satisfy both needs of workers through a culture that reflects key aspects of both orgs.

Yay me?

Lol mine was exactly the same. I just hope the examiner can actually read my writing, normally i write really big and like a grade 2 kid, so it's quite easy to read, but i had to smush it all together and try write tiny but i don't think i succeeded. :-\

Don't worry, I'm sure your handwriting isn't as bad as mine...the examiners will understand that 70 marks is a bit extreme and they may therefore be willing to decipher my ancient inscriptions to the best of their ability.  :)

Through reading this thread I've realized that most of the change forces you guys are planning on doing is in relation to Technology, Globalization or Ethics... At school our issue was Environmental Sustainability... Am I missing something here? do we only have the choice of the any of those 3? Semi- Shitting bricks now, can someone clear this up for me?
