anyone doing Techniques for modelling? MTH1030/35/40

I have previously done MTH1030. It's one of those units where you either are awesome at or feel like you're failing the whole semester.

Yeah true, the post lecture banter usually includes stuff like

yeah i'll see you next week....If I don't drop it before then

I'm finding content quite doable (hopefully this continues).

How did you find the cube assignment? I've completed it but still need to format everything properly.

Tfw the education building is 100x nicer than freezing out here at the pharmacy and pharmsci faculty lecture theaters. (I kid you not- I'm sitting here freezing with another hour to go 😂)
(The aircon is one at like -2 btw)
pharmacy/pharmsci @ parkville right?

Yeah the weather has been in the 30's on pretty much everyday since the start of uni but once you get into the matheson library it is freezing. Although hargraves and the lawbrary are fine.
Following on from this, I seriously was going to invest in a ski jacket over the (long) Yes, I got yesterday off (8 weekend. Anyone else get me on this, or am I just a weirdo? :P

Just the pharm aircons, hahaha. Even a thick hoodie and jeans is no match hahah.

I never got to make my timetable, it was purely luck that I didn't get a lab scheduled in, hahah. (Otherwise I'm usually in 5/week ahaha)
But I have a 8:30 tute this morning, so that's probably payback aha.

When I took PHS2022 the final grades were scaled on the following basis:

"While the raw mark distribution would have satisfied Faculty guidelines, after strong representation from your lecturers it was decided to scale the marks up by a uniform addition of 4.5 marks (chosen through consideration of historical averages and grade boundaries)."

The unit coordinator and lecturers were very transparent and provided the mark histogram and cumulative distribution (after scaling) attached below.

You may note that prior to the scaling the highest grade was 84 and only 2 students recieved HDs compared to the eventual 12. Similarly, around 14 students would have failed rather than the eventual 6.

Anyone here do either FIT1045 and FIT1047 and had any insights about them?

In regards to scaling? Not certain but I'm pretty sure no scaling occurred in the end for FIT1045.

Last year in PHS1011, the waves and optics section of the final exam had an average mark of 34%. Pretty sure it was only that section, but we were told that the marks were scaled in the end. So scaling does occur in certain situations. Probably more common in smaller situations like this than compared to total unit grades.

Thread needs a revival  ;)

Who's excited to get back to uni!
I've got a literature review (anyone done one of these before, tips?), maths assignment and "fact sheet" due in the next couple of weeks but happy I got through my MSTs relatively unscathed.

I've done a few literature reviews (not the length of one required for honours/HDR but a 'smaller' version) and it is essentially a summary and analysis of relevant research that you have found relating to a topic. So the first thing is to find research that is relevant, and go from there. Honestly, they are boring as bat shit and I would strongly recommend (if you have a choice) to avoid them at all costs. I've lost a lot of hair doing lit reviews.

I like this guide: http://www.citewrite.qut.edu.au/write/litreview.jsp  .. but check with your unit to see if there's any sort of guide/framework that you need to follow.

I never left. Have been doing assignments all week.. I technically don't even attend uni.. do you really count 2 days a week as attending? I would consider my MTeach as coursework by distance. We use a flipped classroom model which basically means 'do all the work at home and come to your workshops to be adult and talk to each other about it'. IMO I think it's a cost-cutting technique but apparently it's beneficial to my learning or something.

This sounds so similar to how my units are run. (if not exactly haha)
I may need to go in 5 days/week, but half of that is labs and the other half is basically 'do the work' at home and then talk about it in lectures/workshops/tutes etc.
