Hey guys , I recently landed a casual job position at Kumon, however, as uni is starting soon , I don't know whether to cater my hours to the operating hours (monday and thurday 4-7 pm). Or just make a timetable that just suits me , so I would probably get a free day in the week. It is a nice job where it is close by but if i cater my hours to the job, i will end up with a horrid timetable, however I do need some work experience as to look good on my resume, so do I pick this job where I am not even sure if i will be called to work, or just go the route where i have a perfect timetable with possibly free day.

At best i think.. is that i can make my thursday afternoon free to work that Thurs shift but other wise thats it..
Thanks in advance!

I could be wrong though, maybe I passed the unit haha who knows.

Unless anyone here has ever got 'incomplete' then I guess when it says 'complete' doesn't necessarily means you passed.

If I have a complete for Korean, I can assure you that you can get a complete despite failing a unit.

Have results ever been released before the official date? i.e. is there a chance they'll be released before Monday? If so, will it be on WES still? I just can't wait anymore -_-

Hmm, maybe completed doesn't mean passed then... :/

Often they are released earlier, sometimes it's like midnight the day before. Usually not more than a day early, though. Also sometimes SMS results are sent before it shows on WES.

I'm currently in first year doing my Bachelor of Software Engineering at Monash, and I think I just barely failed a core unit (maybe 1-3%) off the 50% pass cutoff. Does monash offer the supplementary exams for first years or is that only for last year students?

I think supplementaries are usually only for final year students. Ultimately, they have to draw a line somewhere. It sucks if you're 1-3% off but no matter where the pass or fail mark is (50, 60, 30?) some people will be so close to making it and not unfortunately. Annecdotally, sometimes they do "bump" up your grade to a 50 with good tute attendance etc.  I'd avoid speculating until you get your actual results (you might have passed afterall).

Also, for those in monash clayton, I can choose preferences on my allocate+ for the units I'd be able to do in semetser 2 if I didn't fail that one unit as explained above, does that mean I've been granted into that unit or will everything change on the Monday when results are released?

I dont think it'll lock you out. I failed a 1st sem unit and enrolled into the 2nd sem version just fine. That said, if you did fail the first sem, take a long long hard look at how you will go in the second semester. I stupidly learned this lesson the hard way.

Also, this may be a dick move, but is it possible to ask to get an exam re-marked if you're literally off maybe 1 or 2 marks off passing the unit?

Not sure if you can request your exams to be remarked. You can inspect them i think but i dont know if you can ask for them to be remarked. I believe it is policy for all failing exams to be marked twice anyway.  You can request remarking for all your insemester tasks (most students dont even know this) but idk about exams.

Why is everyone so eager for results? The earliest i've seen is probably a dayish. I have my doubts they will be out tonight.

Hi Monash Students,

I haven't acquired a response from Monash for about a week, which is unlike my other emails. Thus, if anyone is willing to respond to my queries I'd greatly appreciate it!

Make sure you're emailing the right place, if all else fails, just send it again, maybe it got lost somehow.

1) May I enquire about the Arts/Education degree?

If I hypothetically enter into this course, will these two be full degree courses? Or is it half of each of education and arts?

Also, what does the education course involve? Can I still pursue my interests in Arts, such as Journalism and philosophy for instance?

Kinda is but kinda isn't. A full seperate BEd may include more room to do (non-ed) electives and other things like that, this is likewise true of a full arts degree (maybe you could take some science or business subjects). They take 3 years each seperately. How is it you finish it in 4 years even though you are taking the same load (4 subjects a semester) as everyone else? It's simple. You sacrafice the room to do those extra electives and other things like that. You still get a full education major and a full arts major, thats no different, but you give up some elective room and similar things (which honestly isn't a big deal).

The question you are asking here isn't clear to me, could you just straight up ask it?

@slothpomba

What was your tute attendance for your grade to get bumped up? For the unit, my tute attendance is out of the 11 tutes, I've been to 8, with 1 late and absent for 2 tutes.

It was not me, i just hear it happens. I dont think late is marked down, you are either present or not. I think that is a pretty good attendance, however, you still missed like ~20% of the tutes. Either way, it cannot be changed, i would avoid guessing your mark, doesn't seem to achieve much, just wait and see.

Sloth, pretty much tl;dr, is that I don't know whether to sacrifice my timetable to suit work hours, or just make my own timetable that suits my own times given that I won't get any calls in my casual position.

^ I doubt anyone can answer for you as to what is more important to you. I don't even know what "suits my own times" even means.

Seems like its one of those things thats really hard to tell ahead of time, especially since you're casual. It probably isn't a either/or type thing, you can kind of get a nice compromise between them. I dont know what you study but for most subjects, lectures aren't compulsory. Theoretically you could skip every lecture and just go to tutes/labs if you need max flexibility.

Echoing slothpomba's comments about "close to passing with good tute attendance" grades being bumped up to 50. I've had unit coordinators tell us very specifically in revision lectures that they review all the near-passes and do bump some people up. They point this out because they don't want you to email asking to be bumped up to a pass, because they already considered doing it before marks were released.
