Yes, second & third year subjects are fully weighted to WAM, with half year subjects only being 0.5 weighted. This is down to the unit code ATS10xx vs ATS20xx-ATS30xx rather than the year you were in when you did that unit.

When does moodle usually change over to your second semester units?

No set time, usually up to the unit coordinator. Some like to put them up early, others i haven't even had moodle fully prepared in the first week (some old slides, etc).

A year is nothing in the long term. Seriously, I wish I'd realised this earlier. When you're 60 and you've been working for like 35 years are you really going to look back and lament that one extra year? Follow your interests.

You make a convincing argument :3

EDIT: MTH2032 not MTH2232 my bad!

I found it pretty funny that for just a bit there, it did look like we both dropped physics and picked up the same maths unit. :P

MTH2032 or MTH2232? Because I'm actually doing MTH2232 (my humor can be very hard to understand, sorry :S)

Have fun - I've heard it's pretty easy, basically just a lot of rote learning, hahah.

I found MTH2032 quite easy myself but many people I talked to found it quite hard.. and the exam last year was a bitch.

So next semester I'm going to be doing this unit, which has both a second and a third year flavour. After speaking to the unit coordinator, I've decided to enrol in it at the 3rd year level, because it's the only way it counts towards my minor. (I know, bad idea for someone looking to boost their WAM) From what I understand, as a third year subject it will have different assessment standards, different presentation requirements and, well, more work. That's why I'm just going to test the waters for the first week or so, and if I don't think I can handle it, I'll enrol in the 2nd year unit.

Yeah cheers for reading that, now my question - will I be re-allocated a new tute/lecture if/when I decide to swap? It's the same subject, really, and I'd hate to get comfortable before getting shifted.

I think it depends if they are structured differently. I just finished a unit where there were a 2nd and 3rd level options. The lectures tutes and assignments were identical, literally the only difference was the 3rd level had an extra 5 mark question on the exam.

tldr: it's best just to ask them directly.

Any tips on studying first year bus law guys? Also maybe structures/processes/materials if possible!

Thanks! :P

Look it's hard for me to give advice because my study-routine and work ethic during the semester is far from desirable and at times non-existent, however I can give a few generalised pointers:

Structures is (I suppppoooseee subjectively) a reasonably easy unit. If you half-heatedly follow the content throughout the semester and then smash out practice exams you should be able to get a pretty good mark. Alternatively, if you do all the tutorial/practice class questions and study efficiently and effectively I see no reason why one couldn't absolutely boss this unit. I believe Lizi Sironic takes the unit in second semester and in my opinion she is a really good, engaging, lecturer and is (through my observation) more than happy to help with any questions you may have.

Materials also isn't all that hard although the content can be quite dry and not all that engaging. If you follow the lecture notes and put a bit of effort into the lab report/assignments and learn that content thoroughly whilst doing them this should put you in good stead come exams. Once again, smashing out practice exams in SWOTVAC/exam period will more than likely be vital in attaining a good score. If you find yourself hating the unit during the first few weeks try not to give up as around week 6-8 (I can't quite recall) a new lecturer comes in and the content changes a bit.

I didn't do process systems so cannot comment.

*Note that I did the units in semester 1, 2012, so some things may have changed since then.

Cheers for this! I think i may have a better 2nd sem than my first :P , The units seem relatively easier!

For most Arts units the answer is no, its the same content so it'll be delivered to you the same, its just the assessments that are marked differently, so really what Donkson said, but yeah find out directly. You will find both 2nd year and 3rd year students in both your lecture and tutorial, and its likely that unit will only have one lecture stream for it anyway. If this is the case for your unit, you're probably not going to be able to tell the difference until you get marks back for your first assessment to distinguish between the two streams. TBH though, I dont find that much of a difference between the 2nd year and 3rd year units that I've done, like I think I'd get around the same marks for either. That said I did fail a 3rd year unit that I did in my 2nd year, so maybe I'm wrong, and I only just failed it as well, so maybe I would have passed it had I done it as a second year.

http://monash.edu/about/who/ambition/masterplan/clayton-campus-readdressing/

I personally like it, gives the campus more of a 'traditional' university feel. I reckon it's going to be a bit crap until they reformat the layout of the university to make it more pedestrian-centric* (but this isn't expected to happen until around 2030 lol).

Two decades later and JMSS is still just basically a really big room.
