Is it possible to do actuarial studies as an undergraduate major if I haven't done specialist maths 3&4? Looking at the website http://www.bcom.unimelb.edu.au/bachelor/majors/actuarial_studies.html it says "Students who do not gain entry to Accelerated Maths I will take MAST10006 Calculus 2 in semester 1 and replace Accelerated Maths 2 in semester 2 with MAST10007 Linear Algebra" but in order to get into Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra it seems that spec is required too...

yeah, you can do actuarial studies without spech at all. Ilovemathmeth who i think still lurks VN who graduated in '09 did that and i beleive is still doing actuarial studies. You do calc 1 in semester one and linear algrbra and calc two in semester two of first year. You don't need to have done spech to get into cacl 2/lin alg as calculus 1 acts as the prereq instead of spech, spech is only needed if you're going straight into lin alg/calc 2. Only downside is that you have to miss doing intro to actuarial studies which is a really good taster of what's ahead but if your mind is set on becoming an actuary there's nothing stopping you :)

Yes I did Calc 1, Calc 2 and Linear Algebra. You need 75% average across Calc 2 and Linear Algebra. I think FM 1 and Prob (which rely on first year Maths subs) are doable with Calc 1 pathway, you will not be disadvantaged given that you did not take Accelerated Maths 1 etc. :)

You can also do linear algebra in summer before you do Probability/Stats in 2nd year.
