How much maths is in UoM Commerce?

I'm planning on getting into UoM Commerce, however I'm just wondering how much maths there is in the course? I'm not the best maths student, however I wouldn't mind doing a bit of it. Planning on majoring in Marketing and Management so there's minimal/no maths in those.

Thanks! :)

There are 2 compulsory 'maths-like' statistics subjects you could say, probably similar to what you may have touched on in methods probability. Aside from that, if you're doing marketing and management, I don't think there are any other maths subjects you would do in commerce.

werdna - if you're planning to major in marketing/management, you will find that you will meet almost no maths, it's all about essay writing etc. For undergraduate units even those that has lots of mathematical background will contain very easy (or very little) mathematics. I've seen some of UoM's commerce units, those that has 'maths' ain't really even your formal "maths", undergraduate commerce units are not portrayed with rigorous mathematics.

No, they're called 'Quantitative Methods' 1 & 2.

Thanks for your help guys! :)

Is there any option for accelerating a course at UoM? I know that Deakin offers this, through something like a trimester.

The only way to accelerate a course is to do summer subjects or overload during the semester (or both). Realistically you won't be able to accelerate the course by more than a semester though. On the other hand, if you want to complete a concurrent diploma, you may want to try and overload in order to complete the bachelor and the diploma in 3 years (whereas usually it would take 3.5 to 4).

Just looking at the subjects listed on your profile....

Doesn't the B.Comm at Melb require a min ss of 25 in Methods or Specialist as a course prerequisite?

He did Methods last year and got the minimum.
Lucky guy, I have to sit here wondering if I'm even going to make the 25.

But I'm guessing, for majors like Accounting, Finance and Economics, VCE Methods would come in handy??

For the introductory micro/macro subjects there is maths, yes. Chain and quotient rules come to mind. It's mostly calculus from what I saw, because you need to model costs or whatever.

Yeah chain and quotient rules come in effect in second year.  But since they're not compulsory, you can avoid them if you wish to.
