Essential Specialist Text Book Question

Hey!

I was reading through the essentials specialist book and was wondering which chapters were absolutely essential? (Get it?)

I read through chapter 1 and atleast 1/4 is knowledge from general mathematics (Not advanced), that's why I am asking this question.

Thank you!

Don't worry about the sequences and series part
Although the study design says it's assumed knowledge, it's never been examined before and it's unlikely to be examined in the future

You should know everything else in the book
Maybe the stuff on circle geometry in the first chapter isn't as important, but it's good to know about it nonetheless

Try to learn everything in the book, especially what is mentioned in the chapter summaries, as that is key knowledge. However, learning to apply the concepts you learn is more important.

Good luck! :)

Constructive from brightsky:
the original question was "I was reading through the essentials specialist book and was wondering which chapters were absolutely essential?", which is quite pointless in itself, the simple answer to which is, frankly, 'everything'. we can rank every single chapter in the essentials textbook according to its usefulness by observing trends in past papers, but the bottom line is that you'll need to have a genuine understanding of everything in the book, because all concepts there have a chance of popping up in the exam. solely from a pragmatic point of view, i see little point in neglecting certain chapters if you actually care about doing well in the subject, and one arrives at the same conclusion approaching the question in a less close-minded manner - that is, understanding that knowledge should never be acquired exclusively for the purpose of exams.

Sorry, but AN does not allow posting of copyright materials. Try local/school/uni libraries maybe?

Well, hypothetically, if I were looking to download a PDF version of the book from the internet, I would search 'rapidshare essential specialist mathematics' using google, and click on the first link. Then, assuming there is a rapidshare link available on that website, I would click on it and download the book. But yeah, that's just what someone might think of doing if they were looking for a PDF version of the book. But of course, I would never encourage anyone to do anything like that..
