I'll be doing Media next year, any advice from those that have finished the subject?

Start coming up with some ideas for your production now. If you have time and access to some equipment, shoot some little practice productions; 1-2 minutes videos that quickly tell a very small story and let you experiment with equipment, techniques and strategies.

I say include a story with it because even if it is basic, it might be an idea that can be expanded upon for your final production. You don't need a $1000 camera for such things. Just a phone camera or equivalent will do, particularly if you have or know someone who has a HD capable smart phone.

Check out some videos of Vimeo or YouTube for insipiration. The course work it very easy if you put some effort in.

Most of all, it's holidays. Have fun and put school out of your mind for at least a while.

Watch both your narrative texts over the summer with a group of friends also doing media with you. I've found that gives you a good introduction to the film rather than watching them for the first time in class which can be more distracting.

Also start looking into equipment needed for your major production over the summer holidays so you have some idea on what to buy when the time comes. You should try to come up with some sort of direction your production will take because when school starts it can be hectic to come up with a really great idea in a short amount of time.

But yes, media is extremely interesting and fun! :) Very enjoyable subject, which is the main reason why it was my second highest score. Just make sure you also practice the theory aspect, because it's basically a literary subject since the exam is made up of quite long responses to questions (most questions require a full page of writing). I personally loved the theory in the subject, it was awesome to be able to speak the language of film and analyse it in a manner you've probably never done before!
