Music Performance 2011

aabattery:
Hey guys,

Here's a roll call for anyone doing music performance in 2011! :)

Tell us about what instrument you played, what you found difficult/easy this year, how you went in sacs and final study score hopes

I'll start off.
I play piano; i thought that the course was easier than last years - because VCAA combined the group and solo performance subjects; I was rank one in sacs and i hope to get 45+...  :D

frankish:
well.. i am getting A+ for my technical Sacs and the other ones for Music solo performance.. also rank one at my school..
But i was suprised that i m rank one.. i dont think i am able to do well.. sigh.. so much pressure.
I also play the piano.. hopefully getting a 33+ for music solo performance...

2 of my pianist friend who are extremely talented last year got like 33, 35 last year..
they got A for performance (weird thing is they both passed Amus / Lmus and only getting an A) with a high A+ for aural and theory..
i reckon the Aural Theory question this year is too easy and therefore the ranking will be quite challanging..

well, i guess it is all depending on how good your school standard is..
because VCASS ppl their rank 10 / 11 can get like a high 40s..
n some public school's rank 1 can get like a low 30s..

Music performance is quite a challenging course..
what was your repertoire for piano? and how did u go for your performance exam?

aabattery:
Yep - agree about the comment about school standard.

I'm fortunate to have been ranked equal first in a strong cohort. I did my LMus a couple of years ago now.
I played some great stuff:
Sonatina by Ravel
Beethoven Sonata in C minor
Liszt Sonnetto
Sonny Chua Sonatina

I think I did well for the perf exam. But its all up to the examiners... if they actually liked the perforamnce...! *sigh* ... such a subjective subject... :-\

How about you? What did you play?

frankish:
thats great, getting a 40+ should be fine.. Did my Amus last year.. u must be super pro...
my school's performance r not quite strong.. maybe just average school standard or maybe slightly better than average? i duno
i played:

Exploring - Brumby
WTC BWV 860 - Bach.J.S
Piano sonata hob.37 - Haydn
Etude op10 no5 - Chopin
Prelude "Plainte Calme" - Messiaen
Toccata - Khachaturian

n i played them pretty ok on the day..
well.. not aiming high for music..
not asian enough to get over 40..
:P

r u aiming for Bmus next year or u r doing other degree(s)?

aabattery:
i'm okay... really enjoyed doing music this year! It was a nice break from all the other academic 'study' subjects.

Looks like a great program! Really love the khachaturian...

Nope I'm not doing my Bmus next year... I'm a bit undecided regarding next year... maybe Law/Music or Law/Arts... We'll see about my atar first...  :-\
