Which Physics textbook would you guys say is the best for Unit 3/4? My booklist says to get the Nelson one but the teacher was like he doesn't care which one we get, just get a textbook to fall back on.
We've discussed this to death in many other topics such as this one:
Best physics textbooks? among others, so I don't want to completely relight this debate again - hence I've tried to avoid merely re-stating my opinion on which is the best book. After all which textbook is better is of course a
heavily opinionated thing and everyone will have their own opinion. What material helps you understand the best varies for each person.
Anyway, it's pretty clear from my other posts that I reckon the Nelson book is pretty damn good - and I most definitely think that it's questions are superior to Heinemann (though for some topics, Heinemann can explain it's theory in an easier to understand manner - they both balance each other out).
But in the end though, the textbook questions are only good for getting your head around the concept initially. You should be moving on from them pretty quickly once you understand a concept - as
none of the textbooks represent exam-style questions well at all (yes - this includes the so called "exam-type question" sections in the books).
Theory wise - there's some pretty cool concepts you cover, and just one resource cannot allow you to get your head around a the concept. There really isn't one single resource that explains
all the concepts well. More often than not, I had to look at multiple resources - whether that was another textbook or more often than not, websites on the internet - in order to fully grasp the idea at hand.
It really shouldn't matter too much on what book you choose to purchase as you can always access the others elsewhere e.g. local library and etc.
