BComm --> MD

I'm a little confused right now about what I want to do...

I scored 99.85, so just missed out on the chancellors science/biomed at Melbourne which would give me a guaranteed spot in UoM's MD. I think this year's commerce scholarship places at Melbourne didn't have such high a demand, so am hoping for a place in the chancellors/copland scholars program. But I think I still want to keep my options open and still be able to do med post grad if I decide to, is this possible by doing the commerce chancellors program as long as I do the prereq subjects?

How do you plan to do the prereqs in the commerce degree?

Yeah I have no idea to be honest, not sure if it's possible through breadth? I'm planning on going to the info day tomorrow and ask because I heard of someone who did BComm at Melbourne and is starting the MD there next year...

or possibly through summer school?

In general it's not possible, unless you've already done extension chem or whatever.

The prereq subjects are Anatomy/Physiology/Biochemistry (3) but they require 2 1st year biology subjects and 2 first year chemistry subjects (4). That makes 7 subjects and the max for breadth is 6.

So unless you can work around that or get the coordinator to take you without the prereqs, you don't have room.

But yeah, go to the info day. You might have to switch between the bcomm and bbiomed sessions though.

I wouldn't recommend doing this even if it was possible...basing your bachelor choice off guaranteed entry is just a bit silly.  What if you hate the next three years of your life?  If you're confident enough to keep your guaranteed place in Commerce, you shouldn't be phased by keeping up your marks and getting a good score on the GAMSAT in Biomed.

Ok thanks guys, I'll definitely go and ask tomorrow

I'm interested in accounting or actuarial studies, was just thinking it'd be nice to have a guaranteed in med if I wanted it that's all :)
