You never know, maybe one year will be a freak year where the average GPA/GAMSAT shoots up by heaps..

This is true, not sure for graduate, but undergrad medicine has been creeping up ever so slightly in the past few years.

So is all the GEMSAS fuss I read about in the past not a worry anymore? Getting a 80H1 is the same as getting a 98H1 in terms of my GPA for the GAMSAT? :)

No worries at all mate.  I was also hoping it was the standard weighting and that the Melb weighting might bring it down a bit...

I'm still above the average for now but have done sweet FA for the upcoming GAMSAT in March.  Doubt I'll beat my old score.  I hope your study is going well. :)

I'm sure you'll be fine, there's less pressure heading into the GAMSAT knowing you have an above average score, so you never know, you might score better without as much pressure!

My study was going alright until I discovered 'The Wire', bit late I know but since I started watching it, studying seems much less appealing haha :(

This year wasn't a freak year as much as it was the effects of the new system. Cutoffs are now going to be higher permanently, due to the GEMSAS system being more equitable with respect to preferences.

Is it true that UoM don't use section 3 scores? If so, why?

They do, it just isn't weighted double like it normally is done, instead its weighted the same as sections I and II.

Standard - 25% section I, 25% section II, 50% section III
Melbourne - 33% section I, 33% section II, 33% section III

Since many people applying for med are from science backgrounds, the Melbourne weighting disadvantages them in theory, as section III is the science section. By weighting it equally with section I and II (which theoretically would be weaker sections for science students, hence they score less in these sections) as opposed to being double weighted, the Melbourne-weighted score is generally lower than the standard score.

If that isn't that nail in my coffin then this would be...

So is this GPA we should be looking at the one that UoM calculates for us or the GAMSAS GPA?

Okay.

The thread says "GPA is calculated by GEMSAS for the universities in the consortium."

So we should be looking at the GAMSA GPA :)

Anyone happen to know what the GPA/GAMSAT was for bonded medical places was? Originally from a fairly remote area in Victoria, I wouldn't be too fussed if I was offered a BMP. Although a CSP would obviously be preferable

yeah 6.6 I heard was the cutoff so far. Having said that , the head of the faculty told me 6.0-6.5 was adequate with strong Gamsat.

6.6 was the average of the interview offers, so a lower score is possible. Though with 6.0 you'd need a strong GAMSAT and interview to get a place.
