UoM - Second Round

Hey,

I am just wondering about how all our our preferences work...
for example, I have put UoM's Biomedicine second on my list, and a Monash course first. I have an ATAR high enough for 'Clearly -In' for both degrees, meaning I will probably get my first preference, but now I want my second (UoM's Biomed).
Is it possible that I could get a 2nd round offer for Melbourne?? I just made the wrong decision last minute due to so many people's different opinions, and didn't put what I REALLY wanted first.

A bit concerned..
I know I'm new on here, but thanks so much if you can help me, ...so confused.. ???

You should apply for an irregular offer then :) Try to contact your careers advisor as well and they'll help you organise it.

Btw good choice, team biomed ftw! :D

Quote
Irregular Offers

Irregular offers give you one final chance to reconsider your courses. You may seek an irregular offer from a course selection authority for:

a course and methods lower on your list of preferences than the course type you've been offered
a graduate entry teaching course of either type not on your list at all
different methods for a course to which you have applied and are still eligible to receive an offer provided you answered 'no' to indicate you do not wish to be considered for any other method
undergraduate courses. See page 26 for further information.
When to apply for irregular offers

You can only apply for an irregular offer after Round 1 offers are released. See Important dates.

How to apply for irregular offers

First you must ensure that you meet the requirements for the course.

Next you must contact the selection officer for the course to find out whether there are any places available and whether they are prepared to consider making you an offer. At this stage, you should also check the final date they will accept irregular offers and if the selection officer requires any documentation.

Then you must complete the irregular offer request via the 'irregular offer' link on MyInfo.

What happens next?

Your request is forwarded to the course selection officer to consider. You can track the progress of your irregular offer via MyInfo.

Pending status

If the status of your irregular offer is 'pending', it is still awaiting a response from the selection officer. While an irregular offer is 'pending', you can choose to remove it and submit another for a different course. You may only have one irregular offer 'pending' at any one time.

Rejected status

If the status of your offer is 'rejected', you will not be offered a place in that course. You may submit another irregular offer for a different course.

Approved status

If the status of your offer is 'approved', you will be offered a place in that course. The offer will be formalised through the VTAC offer system by letter and on MyInfo in the next round.

If you are made an irregular offer, you cannot submit another irregular offer request. You also forfeit the right to be considered for any other offers through VTAC for the remainder of the selection period.

First of all I have to tell you about a lesson I learnt. Don't base your decision solely on what others tell you. In the end you will be doing the degree so put forth what YOU want to do.

Now since Biomed is REALLY competitive and you put it as your second preference, VTAC is probably more likely to give you your "listed" first preference.

Thanks Slumdawg!

I got a kind of high ATAR (99.85)...would this mean that they would consider me kind of strongly, or is it purely on number of spaces (do you think?)
...I know I'm getting kind of specific.. :)..sorry lol.

No worries :) Let me know if you have any questions about the course, you can just PM me. I've just completed first year, so I could clear up a few things if you needed.

And 99.85 is not a "kind of high ATAR" :P That's exceptional, congrats on the achievement! I don't think you'll have a problem getting an irregular offer considering your high ATAR. I've seen people with lower ATARs receive irregular offers to biomed, but I guess it's better to keep your expectations low to avoid disappointment. I'm pretty sure it's a combination though of the number of spots available in the course and your ATAR that'll determine whether or not you'll get a place. I hope you do get in though! All the best :)

is change of preference week over? you could change your preferences on VTAC. if not then you can go for an irregular offer straight from uni, no vtac.
