unsure about biomed

OK so firstly MOST people apply biomedicine is to hope that they can get into graduate medicine, dentistry or optom etc.. I am abit unsure about the future pathway if I don't plan to study graduate medicine.. What can you really come out as after graduating 3 years from biomedicine? what is pharmaceutical scientist... hospital scientist? Do they also get high pay? At the moment I am worrying about my Gamsat score after got a low umat score, I am not sure if I am able to get in graduate medicine and if not I need to have a backup plan, so what do you guys think about this?

I wouldn't worry too much about GAMSAT scores now. Apparently, the GAMSAT has little in common with the UMAT. It is true that the graduate medicine pathway can be very challenging, but at the same time, I am looking forward to taking up the mantle and launching with vigour into my university studies.

Quick question, Do you need to have bio to do Biomedicine? Does the course actually require any biology? Do you do any biology?
Melbourne University-Science-Second year

Am taking in students for CHEMISTRY and MATHS METHODS tuition for 2014 as well as first year chemistry. If interested, pm me. Flexible with location.

No biology is not a preq.....only chem, English and either methods or spec :)

If you don't do biology in high school you'll regret it in first year.

Anyway, GAMSAT success isn't really linked too tightly to UMAT success, it's a different exam and has more content that can be approached via study and preparation. As for what you can do without going on to a professional entry health degree, it would be: research, labwork, further study, teaching as the big ones

Not true. I didn't do a single subject of biology at school and got first class honours for both 1st year subjects with average effort. Didn't go to the extra tutes either.

Maybe you can just do Bachelor of Science degrees and then decide or you can choose many different pathways after that.
I think you can still do medi after completing a science degree.

Yes you do biology in biomedicine.

Don't most grad courses require prerequisite subjects, so you would be limited to a certain selection of them if you were to aim for something?

This is correct, but science still has more flexibility on the whole.

there are a hell of a lot of.graduate programs with no prereqs (engineering etc)

That's not quite true. Pretty much all the engineering masters require Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra (or equivalent), and depending on what kind of engineering masters you're doing, there may also be other requirements (e.g. chemistry for chemical engineering).

For example, for a Master of Engineering (Chemical), the requirements are...

Quote
An undergraduate degree including:
the equivalent of 25 points (2 subjects) of first year mathematics, specifically Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra (or equivalent), and
the equivalent of 25 points (2 subjects) of first year chemistry (or equivalent).

I imagine to do engineering after a standard pathway Biomed degree you'd need to use some of your breadths and/or selectives on filling these prereqs.

Well if you think you're gonna do engineering wouldn't it be smarter to do the bioengineering pathway?
