Could anyone give me some personal experiences/second hand experiences about the colleges at Melbourne? I know they are expensive, but I was just curious about the ethos and what not that exists in each. What colleges do you recommend?

Ormand college is meant to be the best one
My mates and I had a tour for Trinity and Ormand, and Ormand was by far the better one
It's one of the largest in Australia - that's what the tour guide told us
And it's the most popular out of all the colleges, so needless to say it's probably the best

Also, the dining hall = the great hall from Harry Potter <3

but yeah that's all I know, sorry

Heard great things about Queens, don't think you'll go wrong with any of the bigger colleges to be honest, all are supposedly fantastic and beautiful.

Living at college is a whole different university experience compared to living at home

Small colleges will have a different dynamic as you get to know the people you live with to a greater extent and spend more time with them. Depends on what you prefer

Would it be odd if I said I preference a sort of closer bond to the people around me? I am a bit of a quiet sort.  :-[

JCH is predominantly women, I think it's skewed some ridiculous amount (because of their original equality of access to education mission) so bear that in mind. I lived at UC briefly and it was pretty good. For what you pay I wouldn't live there long term but the rooms aren't bad and the food is pretty good :)

I was considering Queens this year as an RA but decided against.

Is that necessarily a bad thing re: the predominantly women? ;) Oh, that's cool.  I will have to look into Queens, but it seemed kind of large to me.
