Physics vs Engineering major + Timetable plans ... :S

Hi guys...
We're at the final stages of being enrolled.. :D
I currently can't decide between majoring in physics or one of engineering.
Pros and cons:
I see physics as:
- Something I would enjoy potentially more.
- Appears to have a far larger workload both in contact hours and overall study?
- Limitations in future pathways (Engineering would take one year more), etc..
and Civil Engineering as:
-  Lighter workload and less contact hours?
- Quicker pathway into Engineering if i so desired.

Either way, I plan to fulfill the subjects of a second major in informatics so I can enter back into I.T and later commerce (at MBS) if I so desired.
Any thoughts on my views on Eng vs Physics? Anything that should persuade my decision? :P

That being said, could someone have a look at my timetable plans and see that it should meet the majors of choice? I just wanna double confirm both here and at advice day. :)
The hours are only a rough guide lol. :s

Thanks a lot guys.

I've said this elsewhere, but one thing you might want to keep in mind as far as 'keeping your options open' is that you don't actually need to major in one of the engineering systems majors in order to do the MEng. A physics major will still allow you to do it by all means, it'll just take a year longer.
VCE 2010-2011:
English | Philosophy | Latin | Chemistry | Physics | Methods | UMEP Philosophy
ATAR: 99.95

2012-2014: BSc (Chemistry/Philosophy) @ UniMelb

Currently taking students for summer chemistry and physics tutoring! PM for details.

Um, DON't ENROLL INTO YOUR SUBJECTS FOR EVERY YEAR. You don't have to decide on which specific major you want now.

You only need to choose your subjects for the current year (or just semester?). Considering this is your first year, your life is easy and you don't need to plan that far ahead. As long as you know what sort of major you want (life sciences, engineering, etc), you can select first year common subjects (e.g. life sciences: you do chem 1+2, and the two biol subjects), etc.

I think he knows this, but is aware that he will be cutting options off in first year, hence why he's having to decide now.

Oh well, in any case, I'm fairly certain you don't need to do ESD1 as it's not a pre-req for anything except for one subject IIRC.

Oh yeah this. I think the only thing you need ESD1 for is chemistry engineering type subjects. In this case, maybe you should consider using up one of your breadths in first year for the one extra science subject you can't fit in? Just to keep your options open?

Yeah, it becomes hard though because I wanna do a double major. So my last two breaths are used in third year. :s
Hopefully I can make a decision after advice day. :s

You could just do 2 physics, 2 maths, 2 IT and save ESD2 for summer if you decide you want to do engineering.
2012-2015 - Doctor of Medicine (MD) @ UniMelb
2010-2011 - Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in Pure Mathematics @ UniMelb
2009 - VCE [99.70] -- Eng [43] - Methods [44] - Chem [44] - JapSL [45] - Spesh [45] - MUEP Jap [5.5]

This seems like a good option. Thanks. :P
