I would say that medicine would be an exciting career. YOU SAVE LIVES. How often does paint drying allow you to do that?

Yes but you can't save everyone's life, and in some circumstances you can become guilt ridden because of this. However I agree that it is a great profession, one of which is essential for everyone, although it should be easier to get into.

I think the system is pretty fair atm, and you don't need 99+ ATAR to get into med (at Monash for example).

Very funny e.claire, just because everyone on here seems to want to be doctors although there a few exceptions like myself and a number of others on here. I bet a lion would find teriaki delish LOL.

Just in comparison to older times, I have two uncles and an aunt who are doctors, and they are great at what they do yet they didn't have to do all those admission tests like today e.g. the umat, gamsat. There are so many specializations with medicine that I believe that there should be more of an opportunity for people to be able to get into it, but in saying that I know that they have made it harder to improve the profession.

40 years ago the amount of people going to university was a fraction of what it is today, hence those tests were probably unnecessary

i think it's the opposite, was talking to my doctor the other day who said if he did the VCE a couple of years later he wouldn't have got into med because he wasn't that great academically
