Overloading Units w/o permission?

Would anyone be able to tell me if it is compulsory to get permission from your course coordinator before we overload?? Is there anyway to get around if officially should they deny our application? WES sure doesn't really care if you overload or not but I'm a little scared that I wouldn't be credited for the unit that I overload if the course coordinator doesn't consent to it.

The thing is, I've already got my mind set on overloading for the upcoming semester. I emailed my course coordinator and asked for permission to overload, but she rejected it stating that she doesn't approve of it because of 3 lecture clashes between a maths and engineering unit. She went on about online lectures/recordings are not a suitable substitute, that I wont be able to ask questions, etc.etc. What she doesn't understand is that both of the units aren't recorded anyway and that I normally skip my lectures and study straight from the book anyway.

The thing is, the unit that I'm overloading in is astronomy. The two units that are clashing are my core units, and all their lectures are on the same time due to some shitty management from both faculties. So, doing that extra astronomy unit will not solve the clash in lectures in the two other units.

I've already sent another email to her trying to convince her to change her decision, but it seems in her first reply that she's already made the decision.... I don't really understand why she doesn't just let me overload. It's clear in the timetable that I've sent to her that I know of the clash and believe that I would be able to cope with it. Also, I have a WAM that is well above the mark required to overload.

The reasons that I want to overload is that I wish to go on an exchange program later on in my studies, and that I would only want to do 3 units while studying overseas. Also, I have a strong interest in the field of astro, but due to the structure of my double degree, I won't be able to take any astro subject if I don't overload till a year later, and I'm not particularly the patient type of guy...

So, will there be any way to get around the course coordinator? Will the credit points from the extra unit be counted if I just enrolled in WES and pay for it? Anyone that has any suggestions/solutions please let me know =) thanksss

What you could do is just walk into your faculty office and ask, its totally anonymous.

I think they'll credit it even if you didn't get permission to overload, it'd be fairly shitty of them if they didn't. I wouldn't go just based on your own thinking but if they refuse to credit it they're major assholes. Just try walk into your faculty office if you can and ask.

Shifting one subject onto summer or winter semester might also be an option for you.
