Yeah you will be disadvantaged -only in that everything is new to you, well most of it anyway. But if you work hard and get help when you're struggling you will be fine! Personally, i didn't do General Advanced and i've never done physics before so at the start of the year i thought i was fundamentally screwed... But if you work to understand the concepts and do sufficient practice it should be all good :)

The main topics you will be missing are Complex Numbers, Vectors and Mechanics, so inevitably you will be at a bit of a disadvantage. Having said that, all of these basics are once again repeated in spesh textbooks anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much :)

Yeah, I found that to be the case for Bio... the whole repitition thing... I'm doing 1/2 Physics (I had to choose at least 5 subjects and my school couldn't get the numbers for Spesh, so I thought Physics would be the closest thing until I pick up Spesh with distance next year)... Will that help?? I heard both subjects are pretty related... But thanks rohitpi :)

Physics and spesh have a little overlap in terms of motion and basic mechanics, and its probably the subject that is most logical to choose in your case (it sucks that your school doesn't do spesh/GMA though :( ). However, keep in mind that the motion in physics is fairly "dumbed down" in comparison to spesh -> no calculus whatsoever.

It should be fine for you but there are still disadvantages which you will start with the feeling of hard concepts while most people going through1/2 will have the basic foundations and will be easier to tackle with 3/4 concepts and theories. Some GMA contents might contain further stuff cos most people drop spesh and take on further after trying GMA.
So you not doing GMA this year?  :O

I didn't do 1/2 Biology or 1/2 Physics but I did 1/2 GMA. I can tell you that I had a much nicer time in biology and physics as compared to specialist mathematics.
That's just my opinion.

Sorry to hijack here... would GMA help with Methods 3/4?

Thats slightly frightening :S
I think I'm going to check the selling section and see if anyone has a GMA book - pm me if you do :)

Definitely. Definitely. Definitely. The areas that overlap are Circular functions, Graphing Functions...and like two billion more but I cant remember.

@mariamm: I suggest you do work through a GMA book, as 1/2 GMA is beneficial to do Spesh. Unit 1 is quite simple, but Unit 2 gets harder as you delve into things like Imaginary Numbers, Vectors (which you will cover slightly in physics but not to the detail u will in 1/2 GMA) Kinematics (which you will study in physics), Partial Fractions and some Circle Geometry (which you may have covered in Methods yr 10 or 11).
