Lecture/prac clashes

Creative writing lecture clashes with introduction to maths practical - I'm better off going to the prac, right?

How much contact and communication with your peers and your lecturers do you get for both lectures and practicals?

I honestly have no idea how the uni system works. So lectures = basically you listen to a 'teacher' speaking with slideshows etc and you jot down notes whereas practical sessions = like a classroom where you participate in discussions with everyone, is this correct?

Students are required to attend at least 16 out of 22 practice classes to be eligible for assessment.

So I'd definitely go to the prac. I don't know about creative writing, but most uni lectures are recorded, and can be downloaded and listened to via lectopia.

yeah i know about that, but isn't it also vital to speak to your lecturers after each lectures? i mean, prac session 'teachers' would know different stuff from actual lecturers, no? covering different aspects of each subjects etc?

gosh i am so noob at this uni thing.

I wouldn't say it's vital, I mean I can't remember the last time I went to ask the lecturer a question after the lecture. You can always e-mail lecturers with any questions you have after listening to your lecture at home, and they're normally quite good at getting back to you about it.

that's relieving. do you also get to speak to other students within the lectures or do all the socialising usually happen in tutes?

Most socializing happens in tutes/workshops/pracs, pretty much anything other than lectures. During lectures themselves, there's normally not much chance to socialise as everyone's paying attention to the lecturer, and people often have somewhere to be after the lecture. Workshops/tutes/pracs are much better for socialising are you normally are in smaller groups, and it feels more like a classroom situation you'd have been used to in VCE.

Haha that was probably a gross generalization, what I really meant was pretend to listen to the lecturer, play angry birds, text people, catch up on much needed sleep etc. :P
