Help with my Comm and breadth questions :)

I have a few questions about some breadth sequences and majors in general :)
1) So i read in another thread that you cant do a double major and a breadth sequence in engineering :/ But is it possible if you pick the right units? Like ones that have similar prerequisites.

2) If i decide to do actuary ill have to do calculus 2 in semester 1 and linear algebra in semester 2. My main question here is will i be disadvantaged by doing this pathway? What is the main difference between this pathway and the typical pathway? It seems that the only difference is that you do accelerated maths 1&2 in first year? Or do you have to play catch up with the pathway im looking at? I got a study score of 34 in spesh which is 1 off from letting me take the APT :/ Is there anyway that i can take this test?..

3) How much will the law breadth sequence help with the LSAT? Or what other units are suggested for 'preparation' for the LSAT?

4) Do employers actually care about what breadth subjects or sequence you take? More so if i did one in say law or engineering

5) If you double major how does it work at the end? Like do you get to choose which major is considered to be your first/main one? If you know what i mean?.. lol

I've been trying to find answers for these questions for a few days now but i cnat really find anything concrete so hopefully you guys can give me some help :)
Thanks, much appreciated! :D

1) Whoever said that is wrong. I'm doing my Masters of Eng and majored in Finance and Management, so it's possible. With a engineering breadth, you can't major in either Accounting or Actuarial, but you def do a double major.

2) Calculus 2 and Linear Algebra in that sequence will be the normal pathway for most students.

3) No idea.

4) Probably depends on the employer. I know you get a minor in chemical systems if you do engineering breadth for b.comm, which might be favourable - not sure.

5) In the end, it doesn't really matter to be honest. It's just something you write on your CV. It won't be written on your grad certificate.

Thanks for your reply :)
Well just to clarify, yes you can do a double major and still do M.Eng you just need to do 2 math units and 2 science units in your undergrad but you're M.Eng will just be a half a year or a year longer.

6) I'm not sure whether i want to do actuary or finance/economics so does it matter which stream i choose? i can choose either actuarial or general. I will try and choose my first year units so that i can decide what i want to do at the end of the year. Which will depend on my next question.

7) The actuarial lecturer said that it you dont have to do Introduction to actuarial studies if you want to do the actuarial stream. How much would it help the units you do in 2nd year? Because i need to use this space in the timetable for finance 1... Unless i substitute the spare breadth unit in 1st year with finance 1.

8) Does it matter if you do calculus 2 in semester 1 and linear algebra sem 2? Is it better if you do one before the other?

9) Once you've covered the prereq units for your majors you can pretty much just choose whatever units you want to do?

Hmm...i'm not sure about your first comment. I know for chem eng, yes a double major in your b.comm will set you back half a year minimum, but for others such as civil eng you get an extra 2 subjects worth of credit points. (chemistry 1+2 are pre-requisites for entry in m.eng chem, but are not actually part of the course, as opposed to the civil breadth stream which im not that familiar with).

I think your first year will be pretty regular in that you'll have to do the core subjects. As i said before, you cant do the eng breadth sequence in tandem with actuarial. I think that you can do accelerated maths 1+2 or something like that in order to satisfy the calc 2 and linear algebra requirements whilst also giving you an option of doing actuarial.

Calculus 2 and Linear Alg are not really related so it doesn't really matter what order you do them in.

9) Yes.

take what i say with a pinch of salt. its always best to talk to a career advisor just to make sure you have a your pathway set out straight.

Well the lecturer said that you can still do the M.Eng without doing a breadth sequence for engineering providing that you do 2 science units and 2 math units.

Anyone thinking of doing actuary or are doing it how did you structure your first year? And what are your thoughts on that intro to actuarial studies unit?

Yeah if you don't do the sequence, your M.Eng will typically be 3 years, otherwise it'd be 2.
