English&Theatre Studies OR Linguistics?

I'm mostly looking towards entering the academic field in the future after postgrad (either teaching or lecturing) and was wondering if I wanted to become a mainstream English teacher, what would be more suitable as a major for my undergrad degree, English&Theatre Studies or Linguistics&Applied linguistics?

And would I have difficulties with the latter subject seeing as I haven't done Eng Lang in vce? :-\

Thanks in advance! :)

Mainstream English then do English & Theatre.

However, if you also have an interest in Linguistics then you can do a Linguistics major and two English & Theatre subjects, and this would qualify you for mainstream English (according to VIT teaching guidelines) as well as VCE English Language and a breadth of other opportunities in academia.

The latter is my plan. PS, Linguistics lecturers rock :)

i'll be doing linguistics haha, i loved englang in year 12. I know it's not identical in uni, but I think i've grasped enough content from yr 12 to decide that's what i want to do next year.
2012-2014. BSc: Neuroscience. University of Melbourne.
2015-2018. Doctor of Optometry. University of Melbourne.

Unlikely to respond to any PMs these days.

Woo! I think the first semester subject is pretty similar to VCE English Language. But having said that, I recommend you do the second semester subject (Intercultural Communication). It's very fun (and funny) and practically based and the lecturer Carsten is the best person in the world.

Yeah i'll most likely to both semesters, it was a tough decision deciding breadth for me because I had studied german and italian and didn't know what to choose, I just thing linguistics will be easier to do better in. Anyway, I can teach myself the other ones if i want to :P
