What are the UoM libraries like?

I have a student ID card because of UMEP so I can go to the libraries there. I just want to know what they are like because I don't live nearby so I can't really just call in and see.
I would mainly be interested in Math/Science(particularly physics) books and multimedia.
Also, what are their lending policies like, and for how long can you borrow different media?

It'll tell you on the books/media how long the rental time is.

Is there a lot of recreational and/or general interest stuff, or is it mostly just UoM coursework-specific media?

The University library usually caters to tertiary level students and I doubt you'll find any general interest books and DVDs. If you are a full/part time student and pay the compulsory Services fee, you'll be able to access the Union library which has all the recreational resources.

You can look up and reserve any book you may need for your UMEP studies using the online catalogue http://www.library.unimelb.edu.au

High-use books like prescribed course textbooks are 2-hour/overnight/7 day loan and other books are usually 28 days. 7 day and 28 day loan books can be renewed online.

Hope this helps!!
