I read it in year 10. I still have the book somewhere. This book was just the worst thing to study though.

Firstly thanks to you all who take out some time to help me with my questions.
There are a few questions which I'm not sure but hope you could give me a decent and longer answers. Although I knew some already but I just want to extend it a bit longer from what I got.

Part One: 1.What does David think of his father?
               2.Describe Wes' racism.
               3. How does David's image of Frank as a hero change?
               4. What's Wes' dilemma?( I sometimes don't really get what dilemma means, explain it please)

Part Two: 1. What does David overhear his grandfather recounting and what does it reveal about his Grandfather?
               2. Uncle Frank suggests a couple of explanations for Marie Little Soldier's sudden death. How and why do you think she died?

Part Three: 1. What does Wes do to his brother?
                 2. Explain David's grandfather's reaction.
                 3. What does David's grandfather do and how does Gail respond?
                 4. Why does Wes,at first, decide to release Frank? What makes Wes change his mind?
Epilogue: 1. Explain what happens as a result of Frank's death.
              2. What does David say about the effects of the events of his childhood on his adult life?
              3. Explain what happens to the other characters.

I hope all questions are answered but not all of you have to answer every single one. and how long does each question has to be?

sorry, these answers wont be in-depth because im very briefly skimming through the book

1. David's dad doesn't 'fit [his] ideal of what he should be in his occupation'.
>>
'... so my father set aside his fledglin law practice and took the badge my grandfather offered. It would never have occurred to my father to refuse. There you have it, then, a portrai of my father in those years, a man who tried t turn two ways at once....' i'd say David see's his Dad as someone who is always trying to please the world, and living for others rather than himself.

2. not sure, i didn't think he was racist. (wes is david's dad, correct iirc)

3. From a war hero to a doctor who takes advantage of his position to take advantage of his patients.

4. A dilemma is just like a problem. What is Wes' problem? He's indecisive, and pretty weak as a person. He's like his dad's work horse, and the only reason he takes action against his brother is because of Gail, his wife. What else is his problem.. he's trying to please both his wife and dad. He has to arrest his brother, for the sake of a red indian (which i assume he is racist against because of question 2)

maybe someone else can answer the other parts.

Part Three: 1. What does Wes do to his brother?

He locks him in his basement, likewise to a prison cell

                 2. Explain David's grandfather's reaction.

He is outraged/upset/surprised, he feels that family should come before the law, rather than following justice. He does not support the fact Wes has locked his other son away.

I'll try and remember the others, but your probably better off just googling them yourself, probably not too hard to find.

I studied Montana last year and absolutely loathed it... Not a great text to study.
I did go well on it though so feel free to ask anymore questions!
