sorry, these answers wont be in-depth because im very briefly skimming through the book
1. David's dad doesn't 'fit [his] ideal of what he should be in his occupation'.
>>
'... so my father set aside his fledglin law practice and took the badge my grandfather offered. It would never have occurred to my father to refuse. There you have it, then, a portrai of my father in those years, a man who tried t turn two ways at once....' i'd say David see's his Dad as someone who is always trying to please the world, and living for others rather than himself.
2. not sure, i didn't think he was racist. (wes is david's dad, correct iirc)
3. From a war hero to a doctor who takes advantage of his position to take advantage of his patients.
4. A dilemma is just like a problem. What is Wes' problem? He's indecisive, and pretty weak as a person. He's like his dad's work horse, and the only reason he takes action against his brother is because of Gail, his wife. What else is his problem.. he's trying to please both his wife and dad. He has to arrest his brother, for the sake of a red indian (which i assume he is racist against because of question 2)
maybe someone else can answer the other parts.
