Biggest lol of a subject.

Don't turn up to any lectures:

First assignment for me was a 10-15 song playlist of "mood" music of your own choice, explaining why it affects you in a certain way.

Second assignment was a 1500 words essay on music psychology due in the exam period. That was admittedly a little harder, but for someone who only went to 2 lectures, this subject was an easy 70%. And you can start on it from the start of the semester, cos the topic is available on the lms.

Just make sure you do the weekly discussion board thing, it's worth 10% all up, and all you have to write is a couple of lines of bs.

This subject is more of a "I give UoM $650, I get 12.5 credit points".

Of the two lectures I actually turned up to, there was half an hour of "relaxing sing-a-long" time. I mean, everyone in the lecture was singing. :|

Oh, and I should add, I missed out on 6 of the weekly discussion board responses - an easy 6% lost there.

And I did both assignments ~5 hours til they we due. 28/40 and 38/50. Pretty happy with myself.

oh wot!!
Music Psych sounds like fun then. I mean, what subject allows you to pick your fave songs/instrumental and then blab about how it makes you feel - that is awesome! haha

I think you are describing Music and Health,

For those who are interested, ask Peedles about Music Psychology, he did it last year.

Granted they both are not inherently hard but still require some thought and creativity.

Music psychology comprised of a 40% quiz component which involved 4 mcq per week based on the most recent lecture (with each question being worth ~0.8% of your overall mark). Whilst lectopia is available for the subject, it is uploaded after the quiz deadline. Therefore giving more incentive to students to attend the lectures. I only attended 4/12 lectures and did well for this assessment component because I had alot of friends doing the subjects so I just got answers off them. Yes the questions are the same for each and every student. The lectures are extremely boring. Each week there is a different lecturer who lectures about their area of expertise ie) how music relates to age, emotion, the brain, adolescence, gender, pregnancy etc... As you could imagine it would be hard to encapsulate such a broad topic into 2 hours which is why the lectures I felt were never insightful or interesting.
The 60% essay component involved writing up a 2000 word literature review based on one of the broad topics within the lecture series. I did my literature review on Music and Emotions. The essay isn't too hard to put together. As long as you really take the time to find your sources. I consulted about 20 scientific journals and borrowed a dozen books in the library, jotting down ideas and studies which I thought was interesting. Which turned into a detailed plan. After this the writing of the essay itself should come easily. (you don't have to be an excellent essay writer to do well in this component as this type of writing is alot different to the essay style that people like my self dreaded back in VCE). Make sure that each element of the criteria is fulfilled and is clear to the reader. I originally got 79 for this subject because my recommendations for future research 'was too well incorporated into the essay' so they missed it when they were reading it. When I organised to sit and meet with the co-ordinator to go over my essay she was happy to give me the H1 grade.
This subject does have a very light workload and when compared to other subjects it is an easy H1.  (try to make it easier for yourself by aiming towards close to full marks for the quiz component) Hope this helps!

Music and Health and Music Psychology should be comparable in difficulty. Mikee, Why don't you just do both. Do music psych/genetics this year and the other one next year. I'm doing Genetics Health and Society this semester, hopefully it is as easy as you say Russ.
