University Chemistry - URGENT

Hi,
I was having some second thoughts about whether or not to do CHM1011.

In VCE, I found chemistry to be one of my tougher subjects,
something that REALLY bugged me were the little things that often went unexplained, or were against the rules (the exceptions i guess) and they were just overlooked by the teachers and textbooks.
i'd spend ages just researching upon why something worked in a particular way because I really hate it when you're told 'this works like this... just because'

the breadth, as opposed to the depth in this case really annoyed me.

unit 3 chem, despite it's toughness i found to be in some manners enjoyable.
I hate writing practical reports.
Unit 4 chem was a bore, although im not sure if i say this because after my disappointing mid-year results, i'd decided chem was gonna be in my bottom 2, or because the coursework was boring.
Even now though, i'd rather watch play school than do thermochemical equations.

I maintain that methods was more difficult than chem, and i still enjoyed methods.

It's not the toughness of the subject i fear, but given that I came out of yr 12 as a chem noob, would you recommend i take on chemistry in university?
I hate writing prac reports up, also. That goes for units 1 - 4.

thanks,

Any help is appreciated, i believe i have until tomorrow to set my preferences in, so, go go go !

how did you go in your exams/sacs?
what grades did you get?
what study score did you achieve for chem 3/4?
also is CHM1011 mainly review/extension of unit 1 chemistry?

I got B+ B C+ = 30 raw
(B+ midyears, B SACs, C+ end of years = complete fluke, did 1 prac exam the day before, got a D+. Really put in 0 effort for end of years though.)

I suggest you don't take it if you don't like it, I was in a similar position (but with physics), since I found out I had to do a minor for my Bsci and couldn't do 2 maths, I decided to do physics, however I came out of vce hating physics and all the other sciences apart from maths, but I still forced myself to do it in uni, ended up passing but was the lowest score I've ever gotten, I did no work for the unit, hated the labs, pretty much studied the night before the exam becoz i didn't want to have a fail on my academic transcript. I still regret picking that unit to this day because it has wrecked my gpa forever.

If you dislike the subject, then defs don't do it, if you hate writing up prac reports, then you're gonna hate uni labs (they go for like 2 hrs and you have to write actual formal reports)

Not going to lie, CHM10xx can be pretty damn hard compared to the other subjects i took. For me anyway, probably not for every single person but theres a general consensus it wasn't a walk in the park.

CHM10xx you'll get those things explained in much more detail (most of the time).

I'll swing you last years unit guides.

Did CHM1011 and CHM1022 last year. Those are quite fun, trust me!
