 @1ne - I'm studying the following "texts"

12 Angry Men - Read this 5-6 times so far.
The Lot - Haven't read yet.
On the Waterfront (film) - Watched it twice.
A Streetcar named Desire - Read the play 4-5 times and watched the film 2-3 times.

I've written all of my context pieces on A Streetcar named Desire and all of my text responses on Twelve Angry Men, thus far.

I'm fairly certain that I'll be using A Steeetcar named Desire for Context and 12 Angry Men for Text response in the end of year examination.

@gfrances - It's not too late to start pumping out English work, I just really want a 50 haha :)

I've now gotten an English and also Literature tutor so I can at least get 40 in one of my english subjects.
Your lucky your texts are some what good.
I'm also doing On the Waterfront (watched it 9 times), but I'm stuck with The Imaginative Landscape context and books such as The Island, Tirra Lirra by the River. Only book I actually liked is Life of Pi.
Also I did Street Car Named Desire last year in Literature as well as 12 Angry Men, so I'm going to use those as my back ups to my back ups in the exam.

Sounds like you've got it all planned out! There's no reason you can't get 40+ in both English and Literature :) A friend of mine got 50 in both and got a 99.95 last year :P

Even though this is really not related to "Oral". How much studying do you do a day? As I am having trouble concentrating and getting through set work as well as making notes to study and revise said notes. BLAH VCE, cannot wait till I have finished and I can go on to university.

Sorry for the terribly late reply, just saw this now! :S

In regards to studying, usually about 5 hours a night. 7-8 hours a day on weekends. I take Friday nights or Saturday nights off sometimes though.

Had my oral today, and it was a freaking disaster. Finished writing it at about 12am this morning so I probably deserved it though haha.

It's not like you're going to have to deliver an oral in the exam.. I'm sure all of your written SACs have been and will continue to be of a very high standard. Don't worry :)

Yeah haha this will be the first mark that I'll have dropped on SACs so it's not so much a concern there. It's just that I pride myself on being a strong public speaker and debater so I guess it was an opportunity missed.

The oral is a really fun opportunity though! Some of the weaker English students (in terms of the textual/language analysis assessments) delivered fantastic speeches, it was quite impressive.

It appears as though we have quite a bit in common, my friend. Both strong English students, both are strong debaters and public speakers. Do you participate in Thant?

Yeah - my school did the oral first in what I'm going to assume was an attempt to get everyone off on a strong start. Quite a few people whom I wouldn't consider strong students achieved relatively high marks....

It's ashamed they started to fall away like rain in a thunder storm when the other SACs started haha :)

Am I doing Thant, do you mean? As soon as I find a partner, yes! Did you do PESA?

Yeah I think it's good though, the oral allows for a different kind of expression and an opportunity to harness research skills and passion for issues in the news. I think most schools do the oral first, actually. We've only just done language analysis though.

Sorry - I said "do you participate" because we have a Thant Club (of which I am the captain) at school. I run meetings fortnightly. I'll also be competing in the Thant competition - got to the finals last year with a friend of mine who graduated last year. Now I need another strong partner so I'm going to start training up a year 11 haha.

What's Pesa? I've never heard of it...

Ah right. My school is too maths/science focused to have any kind of extra-curricular social science clubs haha. Unfortunately. Yeah finding a partner for Thant-Evatt is a bitch, everyone is too intimidated. I didn't do it last year though, it's always a Year 12 pair who compete for my school.

PESA is the Plain English Speaking Awards. It's a VCAA public speaking competition.

Ahhh! I've never heard of it referred to as "Pesa" haha! Umm I was going to be in it by it was my own fault. Teacher from my school emailed me asking me to represent the school but I forgot to to go and see him so he went ahead and assumed that I wasn't interested :(

Oh well - ill just enter other ones haha.
