Are host groups compulsory to go to, or could you just go to O-week and wander around by yourself/with friends?

Don't be antisocial. Go to your host group and meet some new people instead of being boring and sticking with the same ones.

Considering that the Chinese are by far the largest ethnic group on the planet, they have a surprisingly small variety of surnames (or so it seems to me).
Therefore, when I am on an email list which contains a lot of chinese names, I amuse myself by observing how difficult it is to get a unique email address when you have a chinese name:

k.wang93@student unimelb edu au :)
