This really all depends on you, your skills and how well you wish to do overall.

I think the recommended amount is 3 hours (from memory) but many students do more than that.

Personally, I did around 2 hours a night which turned into 5 hours a night the two months before exams. It's all about how you think you'll do and what your goals are. If you want to do visual arts at RMIT, than obviously you should focus on your folio and not "waste" 3 hours a night getting a 90+ ATAR that you will not need.

Really subjective question to ask since it differs for everyone.. some people do a lot while others not so much(like my genius friend who does fuck all and gets really good grades). But the school's recommend 2-3 hours a night.. so you should probably be aiming around there. I'm going to try and really utilize my weekends and do significant study since you have 2 full days to study. But once again it differs for different people. There will be days and even weeks where you won't be able to study that much for a number of reasons so bear that in mind.

I don't think there's necessarily a magic number of hours of homework time - it all depends on how efficiently you work as an individual and the tasks at hand. Just aim to get a chunk of work done in a reasonable time-frame, rather than counting and restricting yourself to a certain number of hours :)

There is definitely no magic number that you need to work to. At the start of last year, I was talking to a friend and he asked me how much study does a year 12 student do? What is the actual work load? It got me thinking and I also really wanted to know. So from day 1 of Year 12 (Feb 4) until the last (Dec 18) I recorded every single minute of study and/or homework that I completed not in class time in a personal journal. OCD? Perhaps. But it was so beneficial to me because I could visually track how much studying I was doing and whether or not I was slacking off. Without a doubt it made me extremely consistent and prepared and contributed significantly to my results.

My total number of hours studied were 530 hours and 33 minutes.
I averaged 13 hours of study per week.
Given that there were 6,888 hours during Feb 4 and Dec 18, it means that 7.7% of my total time was spent on studying.
Finished in 2011. Business 50. ATAR 96

Yeah diaries are full of shit, more like in Year 9 - 10 you do 2 to 3 hours of homework per week LOL.

That said I wouldn't organize the amount of work you do in terms of "hours" per say, but in terms of goals. I.e. for Maths, my School has a syllabus where it says what exercises we should do per week for the whole year. So one of my "goals" is to not fall behind those deadlines each week. Apart from doing the consistent work to keep up for all your 3/4's, you also need to factor in extra work for SAC Preparation (i.e. Chapter Reviews, Practice SACs), Checkpoints Questions, spending time preparing for Prac's in Chem/Bio etc. Also pretty soon it'll be time to start doing practice exams, so I'd recommend also planning out how many you want to do and plan when you're going to do them (might mean starting 2 months early if you have 2 or 3 mid years). However long it takes you to do all these things is how long you should spend studying, but if I had to hazard a guess I'd suggest for most people that's around 3 hours work a weeknight.

Perhaps try and get hold of other textbooks and do question out of those for each subject. I find that other textbooks have better explanations or better questions. That's what I do when I don't get given enough homework.
There is always something to do.
