japanese beginner lecture - attendance taken? TIMETABLE WOES

I just got the worst freaking timetable ever. I've never gotten anything less than my first preferences before and now thanks to one of my subjects changing its times like 10 times and then again at the last minute - my whole timetable sucks majorly.

Just wondering if attendance is marked for Japanese lectures (and seminars as well???) because I really do NOT want to go to a 5pm lecture arghghhh. I'd go to the earlier time though.

I took Jap beginners back in 2010. First semester lecture attendance wasn't recorded because we had Robyn but second semester Sarah Pasfield took over the unit and started taking attendance for lectures. I never did like her that much!

Seminar attendance is definitely recorded. You should probably go to the first lecture just to see if attendance is checked, or ask to be excused or something.

I wonder what proportion of units has compulsory lectures... seems even more odd when they record them and release the PP slides.

The attendance is probably there to act as a deterrent to students who are already proficient in the language and failing the placement test on purpose and getting into the beginners class, skipping all the lectures then turning up to the exam and destroying it. That said compulsory attendance for lectures are kinda annoying...

Just... go? 5pm isn't that late. I have a 6pm Tute for Introductory Japanese on Thursday.
