The first week of semester......
Posted on: Friday, 24 February 2012
Hi Students,
It all begins on Monday 27th Feb - lectures at 9.00am, 11.00am or 3.15pm in the Copland Theatre Arts West. We are at capacity so please attend the lecture shown on your timetable. Also Theory and Practical Workshops start from Monday 27th Feb. Make sure you check your room for the Theory workshop on the LMS - it may be different from what appears on your timetable.
There is an Introductory Theory workshop and Practical workshop next week (w/c 27th Feb) for everyone with a SPECIAL TIMETABLE only for week 1. This is available on the LMS in the Practical Workshop section. To work out whether you are Practical Group A or B consult the Introduction in the Biology Workbook OR the LMS Practical Workshop section.
From Monday 27th Feb the first of 5 PrePrac Tests will be available to complete. The test will consist of 10 multiple choice questions based on:
The Introductory Practical (next week),
The Introductory ILT on the Microscope (on the LMS in the ILT section),
the reading for Practical 1 Cell Structure (In the workbook)
the notes on Prac 1: Cell Structure in the workbook.
Obviously do not attempt the test until you have completed the Introductory Prac next week and the Introductory ILT!
HOWEVER you must complete the test before you attend the Practical Workshop on Prac 1: Cell Structure (Group A week 2 and Group B week 3). When you complete the test you need to print the last page after submitting and bring this to the practical workshop on Cell Structure. A pass in the test will score 1 of the 10 marks allocated to the practical.
If you missed the Orientation talk you can access it from the Biology web page. http://www.biology.unimelb.edu.au
Hope you enjoy Biology.

If anyone can make heads or tails of it, please let me know how to find out what group I'm in. I think I'm in B, because my I'm in #24 on my timetable for the tute and #14 for the prac.
Note that even though this is the first day it was posted, I discovered it by luck and haven't been hovering over the portal.
On another note, anyone know if there's a concise list of our required books (I need to try to find the names of the prac/tute books - not buying the textbooks just yet) without going through the handbook subject by subject?
