Hey, Im studying Bachelor of Science at UoM. Just wonder what subjects do i need to take through out the course 1,2,3(years) and major so once i graduate from BSc i can apply for graduate Health Science's (MD or DPhysio) and if i dont make it into the Health Sciences I can just go into the Masters of Electrical Engineering at Melbourne.

Cheers!

Have you looked at the admissions pages for either of those degrees on the uni website, because all the information is there...

Have a look at the university handbook. Go to 'All Postgraduate Courses' and all the options at Melbourne Uni are listed. Click on whatever course you may be interested in and scroll down to 'Entry Requirements'. Everything you need to know should be there, if you have questions about the specific course you can try emailing the course coordinator.
For example, for the Master of Engineering you need to have completed 25 points of relevant tertiary level mathematics (usually means Calculus and Linear Algebra), and then there are additional requirements for each of the different engineering streams

I'm afraid it will be very difficult to choose subjects such that you will be eligible for both MD and MEng (Electrical).

To qualify for entry into the MEng (Electrical) 2 year stream, you will need to have completed an Electrical Systems major in your BSc. To qualify for the 3 year stream, you will need to have completed 25 points (two subjects) of first year mathematics and 25 points of first year physics.

For entry into the MD, the prerequisite subjects are - as mentioned - "Biochemistry & Molecular Biology", "Human Physiology" and "Principles of Human Structure". These are all second year subjects, but they themselves require prerequisites. To do all these subjects you will need to have completed 25 points of first year chemistry and 25 points of first year biology.

Thus, to keep your options open to the end of first year between the MD and the MEng (Electrical) 3 year stream, you will need to sacrifice your breadths and complete the following;

Chemistry 1 | Biology of Cells and Organisms | Physics 1 (any) | Calculus 1 or 2
Chemistry 2 | Genetics and the Evolution of Life | Physics 2 (any)* | Calculus 2 or Linear Algebra

* Might not be able to do Physics 2: Life Sciences and Envrionment; you'd have to check this.

If you wanted to do the 2 year stream of the MEng (Electrical), then - as said - you'd need to complete an Electrical Systems major. In this case, you would replace the Physics 1 and Physics 2 with ESD 1 and 2, respectively. However, I am unsure whether there are second year subjects in the Electrical Systems major which require first year Physics subjects as prereqs; if this is so, then this path would be practically impossible.

Do you only want to do post grad medicine/dentistry etc at UoM? Or are you fine with doing at a different university?

If you don't mind which university to you go to, you wouldn't have to do second year anatomy, physiology or biochemistry - at least for the MD anyway. UoM is the only university that requires you to do prerequisite subjects for the MD course - every other university that offers post grad medicine only looks at your GAMSAT score, your GPA and how well you did in the interview - they don't care about which subjects you took. I don't think they even care about which degree you did as there are Arts and Commerce graduates who get into medical schools just fine. I'm not too sure if this applies to dentistry and physiotherapy as well, but I imagine there would be many other universities that don't require prerequisite subjects.

So if you ditch those 3 second year subjects^ you could complete a major in electrical systems. You would still have a shot at getting into any other medical school in the country I believe, just not the MD at Melbourne. And this way if you can't get into a post grad health science course you could do your masters in engineering at melbourne
