Well for starters - from my reading of the plot synopsis - two of the main characters are illegal immigrants, this puts them in transgression of the law, but justice dictates that they have a right to pursue a happer life in America
(better living conditions), and, in Eddie's case to provide for his family. Try and look for instances in the novel where something unfair (unjust) is happening, which isn't actually against the law.

It is also important when responding this question to not only address the 'articulates the notion that it is very different from statutory law' part, but also the 'illustrates the importance of justice' part as well. What events in the book illustrate the importance of justice?

If you are still having difficulty, it might help to think about what actions make us perceive certain characters in the play as being reprehensible, selfish or corrupt; and also what the characters have to say on the subject of justice and the law
(the lawyer, I am guessing probably has quite a bit to say with respect to this for instance, hint, hint).

I would base my essay on the fact that it doesn't 'in many ways' state that justice is different to statutory law - only in the singular one way which is the crux of the whole plot. I haven't read the text in a while, but as far as I remember this guy goes to seek justice despite it being against the law, right - and that's what the whole plot is based around? If I'm wrong, forgive me, but I can't think that the prompt saying that the text illustrates this in 'many ways'... from my vague memory the whole plot is about the trials and tribulations of a singular character in his battle for justice.

And is this a new VCE english text? I remember doing this for 1/2 lit...

forgive me if incorrect..

ah rite! Excellent! u guys are amazing! explains the respective 49 and 48 scores!  ;D And also, i discussed how, at the end of act 2, Marco conquers Eddie, and in a sense illustrates the superior status justice has over law in the play. Marco, as well as the Sicilian-AMerican  society of Brooklyn, believe that it is IMMORAL (unjust) for Eddie to live after betraying him and Rodolpho to the immigration bureau; Eddie however, was doing what was legally correct. Not only does this claim elucidate that american law and justice are at harsh conflict, but also articulates the fact that moral and ethical justice are of higher importance to miller than state law itself. i was wondering whther this would be ok (of course i would be more coherent in my essay, but this would be my general drift). and throughout my essay, should i talk about how miller was pro-socialism, and was acting against statutes, but believed he was morally correct? or is that a bit vague and irrelevent??? thanks
