URGENT QUESTION!

1. Is this scatter plot non-linear or linear? its (week on x axis and points scored for on y axis

2. What type of data transformation would you do to make it more linear. The graph paper that I have been given has kept the x variable as the same e.g. 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, which has confused me, because I decided that the best transformation would be to the x axis?

SO CONFUSED RIGHT NOW!

The questions would be easier to answer if you made your plot with the y axis starting at 0.

not quite sure how to do that on my calculator and this is also how the graph was given to me (teacher handed out sheets), I just redid it on my calculator

It seems non-linear,

And try applying a 1/y transformation

it is definetely non-linear becase there is a clear pattern in the residuals.
if the question doesnt tell you which transformation to use then you have to apply each transformation and the transformation with the highest r^2 is the transformation that you should permanently apply.
in this case (according to "the circle of transformations) you have to use the transformations: logy, 1/y, logx, 1/x

step1- apply each transformation to you data
step2- find out each of their r^2 values
step3- choose the transformation witht he highest r^2 value
step4- this transformation is the one that you should use to linearise you graph.

hope i helped (^^)
