So what kind of topics would you be looking to do?

Topics that the examiners would be able to ask lots of questions?

I guess very common topics. If you choose weird ones then the questions they ask can be really unexpected because they don't know what it is about/common things related to it. Only down side to really common topics is that they'll be bored to death.

That's why you pick something that's not too far-fetched yet still manages to capture their attention, put some thought into this!

monokekie:
If you are strong students and want to achieve high study scores, you need to pick the topics that are less popular, but more related to China & its culture in order to stand out amongst the crowd. the premise of doing this is, however, to be prepared for ANY sort of questions that are related to the topic. THINK about as many questions as possible, and list your answers as DETAILED as possible.

However, if you are an average student and want a safety-net while doing this part of the exam, i suggest that you pick a topic that is mundane. Though you may bored your examiners, you are less likely to lose marks.

Make up your minds, and make sure you are picking the topic that is RIGHT for you :)
